I agree, wish I could just get a JY unit on the cheap. But the stupid pass lock requires the dealer to unlock the vins.
Ive been meaning to replace the head unit, but it's a big cost. To make the remaining system operate correct (bose, steering controls, and rear entertainment) you need several...
Messed around with the ole parasitic draw test finally. I am drawing over 2.5A in resting state on the "Radio" fuse. I need to find out what is on that circuit. I do have radio issues, bose amp doesn't work. I checked the amp fuse, replaced the amp, changed the sub, and still nothing. The radio...
I did get a bunch of disc's at HF, the strange part it the finer disc's are film and foam. I am a bit skeptical (to be honest nevwr seen film) as all the hand sanding I did was with conventional paper and grit. Anyone have experience with these new synthetic type sanding disc's?
Spent more time at it today all by hand. I have to change that up, will go looking for another DA this weekend for wetsanding the big areas. Some great persepctive pictures here of areas where I havent touched (really dirty looking, even though I washed it 2-days ago), wet-sanded with 400 by...
Spent some afternoon time peeling off the headliner and all the rooftop features. We had some critters in there, and holes in our ship, will need to work on sealing them better on re-install following the paint refurb.
I could possibly get it a little better, but as a rookie in this department I am very happy with how it turned out! I'll admit, I was petrified to take sandpaper to my truck.
Yes sir, I've got a DA and a standard rotary buffer. But nothing as of yet for the wet sanding. I need to find a way to make that more automated.
I did go out and mess with it more this morning, the method with best results: sand 400, sand 800, sand 1200, sand 2000, go at it with compound, do...
Started what I was dreading to start. The oxidized paint restoration. I started on an area you couldnt see, the roof. Started off with several types of compounds ot see what they would do. Unfortunately we found tons of deep scratches (or maybe cracks?), swirl marks, and gouges from years of...
Got the shifter poked back in. I need to find some No. 10 sheet screws for the boot, it only had 3 in it and 1 was mis-matched.
Pulled the truck outside and went to town with the knarly wire wheel. Much better.
Wondering what to do with the floor mat. I really like it as its the OEM IH, but it is literally disintegrating.
Got the shifter tower all ground out and accepting of the new drill bit that identifies as a pin....
Man the threads on this cup are horrid from the previous pin. I tried getting...
I concur with the previous comments as well. Out of all the GMT400's I've had all were straight there, someone definitely plowed over/into an immovable object. If there is damage here maybe other hidden damage occurred at that time resulting in your struggles.
Back at it. Got the shifter tower drilled out, I forgot my thread file today at home so will need to do that at a later date.
Also managed to cut, and clean up the drill bit shank for the new larger dowel pin.
Next time we will begin hand filing the shifter tower:
Agreed, I would not have done it this way. I did get another pigtail from a truck at the JY for just in case. If there are any visual issues found I will use some nice solder sticks to get the replacement back on.
Went to the junkyard the other day and grabbed some parts:
Drivers door handle spring, and arm. I believe me spring is broken or the plastic handle itself is broken. The handle flaps in the breeze going down the highway.
PS cooler. Mine is rotted badly and leaking more than a seep. Luckily...
Well, took some time today since it wasnt raining to inquire about my passenger floorboard water leak.
Pulled the cowl, looks like this may be the culprit. Hopefully we see some improvement. I do have a few more spots I need to inspect, but will wait for a more appealing caulk option. White was...
Did some cleaning, measuring, cleaning, fixing of the community shop vacuum, etc.
I will be doing the "drill bit" mod on the shifter pin. Stock size is 1/4'', I had hoped to upsize to 17/64'' but its still a little loose. If we are going this far, and how much it actually gets driven we are...
Bit of an update here. Planning my winter projects, this year its minimal due to family, life, you know the drill. First 2 on the list:
Take care of rust scale on drivers floor board; and
Attempt a fix on the looser than loose shift knob.
It looks a little rougher than I hoped under the...
