I also have bypassed the transmission cooler in the radiator and go straight to the Hayden unit I put in out front. ( I don't run this truck in winter).
I have kept out of this conversation because I feel my results are not typical. I run a spring modded Hayden 2840 with a 21" d-max fan and a 2k model year spin on pump. I also have a 12gph water/meth system that I use when I am towing big loads (11-15k, and on mountains only). That said, my...
Still took me longer than I thought it should have. I had over 4 hours in it until I was done fussing with stuff. Had to make two runs (one to my dad's and one to my father-in-law's to retrieve some of my tools that are involved in other projects)! Good thing they're close by!
My youngest is headed to college in Aug.
Factory is taking a toll on my hip and my hearing! Now I can't get my head far enough away from my hand to see what I'm writing!
AirDog is up and running (initial results are promising!). Fresh oil this morning and back to work! Have the day off so I'm helping the wife with mowing jobs!
All wired and ready to go! However, this was an outside job (barn's full), and we've had weird weather all day, 20 minutes of rain, 20 minutes of sun. It's raining now, so I'm not crawling back under the truck to fill the filters. Tomorrow!
Any suggestions for this stuff?
Sorry fellas, I chickened out today and left the stock nose cone on the pump. I want to get the AirDog up and running first, then I'll yank the intake and top injector lines.
Just have to deal with this mess yet!
I don't know the under hood temp at which mine engages. I do know that by the time my temp gauge reaches two marks below the 210 mark, the fan clutch is fully engaged.
Hayden 2840 fan clutch (spin on clutch, will need a Duramax fan), remove the silicone holding the bimetal strip to the clutch body. Straighten the 90 deg bend in the strip completely. Then make a new 90 degree bend 1/8" closer to the end of the strip. RTV the strip back into the clutch housing...
Thanks for sharing your knowledge and experience Will. Could you post a pic of the restriction fitting in a spin on pump? I put a NAPA rebuild spin-on pump on my truck before I ever fired it up, but I don't remember any sort of restrictor ( I honestly didn't even look- just went with opinion...
I agree with Will about the balancer and injectors. But if you wander away from stock settings and start adding fuel and boost (especially if you don't lower the compression), working it hard from 2k on down will destroy one even faster. As you add more boost, your "working" rpm needs to climb...
