This past week I got the crossmember welded back in. I forgot to take a picture once it was welded in, but it went to plan. With that done I pulled the bed outside and cleaned it with KBS Klean and then sprayed KBS Rust Blast all over the underside. Thursday night I rolled and brushed...

    DIY coolant tubes in heads

Trying to remember back……I believe I found they already had the tubes installed in that set of heads, but it didn’t matter as I ended up with cracks and steam. Perhaps the cracks in between the valves weren’t steaming, but that big crack in the throat was.

What did you do with your GMT400 today...or yesterday....

I’ve never had a problem getting a hood to line up on these. Off hand I can’t think of what might be causing that issue for you.

What did you do with your GMT400 today...or yesterday....

I soaked the one on the red truck for over a week in an acetone/ATF mixture. Still wouldn’t come loose. Luckily since the truck is a gasser now, it doesn’t need the clamp on the driver side to be functional, I just thought it would be nice.

The distributor is a new replacement. The gear was worn and it wasn't much more to just buy a whole new distributor instead of only replacing the gear. Plus and wires are also new, so the only ignition part now that isn't new is the module. Though just because something is new, doesn't mean...

Installed the new coil. Interestingly the primary resistance in the new coil read the same as the old one. Gave it a try anyway. It’s finally running pretty smooth. I’m tempted to try a new module because it isn’t buttery smooth yet, but that’s probably just me being picky and wishing for...

A new Delphi coil arrives today. We'll see if that's takes care of it. I hate just throwing parts at it, but I'm sort of at a loss at the moment.

    1996 K2500 “Krovvy”

This weekend I got the 4 patches fully welded and the welds ground flush. The front crossmember under the bed had some rust holes, so I drilled the spot welds out to remove it. I wire wheeled the floor and sprayed it with weld-through primer. The ends of the crossmember with the mounting...

Here’s the post from the engine build thread. Post in thread 'A military rebuilt 6.5' https://www.thetruckstop.us/forum/threads/a-military-rebuilt-6-5.43832/post-495653

Tonight I got pretty far on the front patch on the same side of the bed. Learning from fitting the other patch helped me move along a little faster. The patches are ending up larger than I planned because as I’m inspecting the original metal, I’m finding lots of pits on the backside that would...

One of the four patch panels is fitted. It took a bit to make it fit right, so it’s taking longer than I hoped. Typical.

I thought it was really cool to be able to actually see such a dramatic difference. Too bad that scan tool is so expensive. It also made me feel better about the expensive set of injectors I have sitting on the shelf for the Escalade - a clear case of getting what you pay for.

    1996 K2500 “Krovvy”

Last week didn't go as hoped. We got the engine to fire up, but there was a miss. The scan tool said it was a misfire on cylinder #8. We swapped plug wires, swapped spark plugs, traced injector wires and did a compression test and nothing changed it. That left the injector itself (or the...

What did you do with your GMT400 today...or yesterday....

Hmm, I’m not sure I’ve seen an adapter with that rectangular profile o-ring before. Someone may have used an oil filter gasket in a pinch. I could be wrong though.

Man, I’m getting bad about not updating this thread in real time and then I have to try to catch the thread up and remember what I did since the last post. One thing I got done was installing the fenders. It went well having the inner fenders preinstalled, so I was happy to have done it that...

    1996 K2500 “Krovvy”

I had the day off work today. I didn’t get as much done as I hoped. First thing I did was dig the fenders out of the loft area, anticipating that they would be installed today. As I cleaned them off, I noticed a lot more rust than I expected, boo. So I wire wheeled the rusty spots and then hit...
