Just got the truck back from the shop with a new flexplate and starter. Trying to set the TDCO with no luck. When the truck is running TDCO reads 0. When I turn it on it runs rough dies and then reads 2.02. No matter how far we move the pump either direction this is the same reading. Obviously...

Correction on part of the issue. It smokes in 1st gear to about 25-2700 rpm then it cleans up. When we run it with the airbox off smoke comes out of the CDR / EGR tube coming out of the valve cover.

The only code is a boost code that has to do with the turbomaster. It occasionally comes on when you get on it. It is an F code, no sensor.

How do you mean rod it out? On my last burb I took one of those paddle drill bits and drilled a bunch of holes in it till to open it up.

The fuel is good. No bubbles. Another reason I think it's probably plugged is the black smoke coming out of the tailpipe Is dark but there isn't enough coming out for the amount that the accelerator is being pushed. To open it up do you just unbolt at the downpipe and shine a light up the pipe?

I wish it could hack it off. I'm in commifornia. If it was a 97 I could but since it is 1 year younger it still has to be inspected. I will probably have my son cut it off and put a pipe in it.

I found it. It's a turbocharger service kit. None of the big parts stores carry it. Rockauto has 2 different ones. Cardone and Rotomaster. The cardone is double the cost at $223. They look the same. Is there a difference?

I was looking for a rebuild kit but I can't find any. Do you happen to have a part number for it?

On the 98 burb the turbo is about done. With 300k on the original engine I'm not keen on putting a performance turbo on it. My local parts stores have them for about $700. Not sure if there is a rebuild kit available. I have seen gm8's on ebay from $250 - 1000+. I thinking even though they say...
