So I have never been into a 3800 series 2, and I am on the road currently so cant check, are the coolant elbows serviceable seperately then? As in the lower can stay in place?
What is the usual failure, plastic splits and pee's coolant all over?

OK, it turned out pretty well, swapped ECM, did the (3) 10 minute key on cycles, and the P0606 code is gone, and it now responds properly with every turn of the key. I am still tracing IP issues, but I think we are now on the downhill slide of figuring this ol girl out.
I have a 99 engine that I snagged from an auction with a hole in the pan that I plan to get the IP off of, but the injectors may have been the cause of the hole, so I better have them re-done. :)

unplugged the crank sensor, and she ran continuously, so it seems passlock is not an issue.
Still stumbles and runs rough, fluctuating RPM, etc. with the crank sensor unplugged.
OK, swapped ECMs today, and that helped, dash lights up and she will fire up every time now. The swap got rid of all the codes except P0251, which probably means its IP time, unless I want to risk a runaway and do the optical sensor myself.
It will run for about 30 seconds and then stall...

Its ECM time on the bomber 98.
I was curious if anyone could give me some pointers on swapping ECMs on a 98 6.5L with passlock.
The Gm books are talking about programming the ECM. Is this back when the ECM would show up "blank" and needed programmed for the application?

I am chasing similar issues on my 98 K2500, and I would recommend at least trying an ignition switch before writing off the ECM.
That said, ignition switch didint fix mine, but hopefully it will fix yours. :)

Have you had the truck long? IMO I would get it healthy and see what she can do. Keep in mind torque does alot, you dont really need alot of power.
