What does the optical eye sensor on a injection pump do?

Hi guys. I am curious what the optical eye sensor on a DB2 pump does. I have a 93 k3500 with the 6.5 and I think I am having injection pump issues. I was scrolling through marketplace and found a guy selling a 6.2 injection pump and after researching to see if I could use a 6.2 pump on a 6.5 I went a bought the pump. But I am confused now. Because the pump I bout it a K2 DB2831 4991 pump. Which if I am correct means that it is the bigger pump with the bigger plungers which matches the pump that is on the truck right now. But this pump has an optical eye sensor on the right had side that the pump on the truck dosent have. I have tried to research this but everything I have found just says that the optical eye sensor tells the ecu the fuel rate coming across it so that the ecu can control the timing events. If all it does is tell the ecu the timing of the pump essentially then could I put this pump on my truck to rule out if it is an injection pump problem or not? All of the numbers on the IP pump I bought match the ones on the IP pump on the truck except the model number. Can anyone help? Thank you!

Throttle position sensor, shut off solenoid and maybe a stepper motor for advance or possibly cold engine fast idle.
I’m not familiar with all the connections on a DB2 pump.

Ok. Correct there is no optic sensor.
You have a fully mechanical ip (injection pump).
The TPS (throttle position sensor) is exactly for the TCM (transmission control module) to help control when the trans shifts.

Adjusting the TPS:
Key on, engine off. Battery needs to have 12.6 volts. Read voltage between black & blue wires. At idle you want 0.5 volts. Never under 0.5volts, a hair above is ok like up to 0.75 but not desirable.
At WOT (Wide open throttle) you want 4.5 volts. If it is slightly under like 4.25 is ok but not desirable.

Loosen the screws and rotate the TPS as needed to obtain those readings. The idle setting is more critical than WOT. But if you can’t get both within those ranges, you might need a new TPS.

All that said- TPS rarely fails. Rarely gets out of adjustment. Maybe give a detailed description of what is happening and we can walk you through diagnosis.
And be very happy you have db2 instead of the ds4 with optic sensor, pmd, and tons of headaches. Welcome to the db2 crew! Haha
