auto headlamp question

I am having a problem with my auto headlamps coming on when I don't need them. I know that I can turn them off but that also turns off my DRL's. I was wondering if there was a way to adjust the sensativity of the sensor on the dash so that my headlamps DON'T come on when it is just a little cloudy out. Thanks.

I don't think there is any adjustment for the sensor.

Check to make sure that the sensor is not being obstructed by dirt or crud that may have fallen on it.

I know that my sensor on my 05 has what looks to be a tinted lens over it and my 02 sierra does not. I didn't know if that lens was removable to let more light to the sensor.

Exactly what I was gonna say. Him and I disabled our sensor by jumping two wires together under the dash. It fools the sensor into thinking that its daylight out all the time, even in complete darkness. This way, you'll be able to have 100% full control of your lights, whenever you want.

Is this done by pulling the sensor up out of the dash, or reaching up from underneath? Thanks for the help.

If you pull up on the sensor, it'll probably break since they seem to be quite fragile. When they break or fail, the lights will be on ALL THE TIME.

The BCM (body control module) under the dash has a series of wires that control it. There's a black on and a white one that are the only two in their set. Simply cut the wires and jump them together, thus fooling the sensor. You're not getting rid of it, just fooling it.

Pictures would be great. To be honest I am not even sure what side of the dash the BCM is located on. I really appreciate all the help.

The BCM is located just above the brake pedal connected at the lip of the bottom of the dash towards the steering wheel. That's where it is a 01 probably the same location in later years

GOT THIS FROM ANOTHER SITE.

The wires for the Light Sensor go to the TBC. The "J" connector numbers are molded into the TBC under each connector. The "A/B" are molded on the ends of the connectors and just count wires to get to the right terminal.

Connector J3 terminal A4 = white wire for sensor

Connector J4 terminal B7 = black wire for sensor return
If you have auto climate control the black wire is shared with the left and right solar controls.

You could jump a small piece of wire between J3-A4 (white) and J4-B7 (black) to disable the Light Sensor.

If you have manual climate controls the black wire only goes to the Light Sensor so you could cut J3-A4 (white) and J4-B7 (black) and connect them together. Just be sure to connect the wire on the TBC end and not the ones going to the sensor.

No More Auto Headlights!

Does this also disable the sensor's effect on the auto climate control when in direct sunlight or darkness, etc?

I've been holding off re-installing my HID's until doing this, but wanted to check to see if it makes the A/C act screwy when you disconnect the light sensor first.

From what I know of it just fools the sensor thinking it's light out all the time, but as for the auto climate control I have no idea.

Ok. I searched another site and found about 150 different ways to do this. None of which seem to completely simple. Am I over thinking this? Take connecter J3 and wire A4 (white wire) and simply run a jumper (16 gauge?) over to connecter J4 wire B7 (black wire) and then reinstall connecters. Is that it? And this supposedly will not mess with my auto climate control. Tell me if I am correct on this. I have thought this through so many times my brain is smoking !

Auto climate control I don't know, but a good question. Everything else you said is correct. It is actually pretty easy. It's just in a tight spot with short wires.

Do you remember the wire size you used? I guess it doesn't matter too much. I am going to try it this evening and see how it affects the auto climate control. Thanks to everyone who chimed in.
