I finally bit the bullet and am upgrading the turbo ,but was wondering where is the best place for the k47 filter housing normal mount or where the battery was and I do have a vacuum eliminator and if where the battery was what do you do for air intake ......................also if at normal mount is there enough air intake through the fender hole

98 6.5
feed the beast
pump
holset 40 w
k&n
4 inch exhaust
new front damper

Stock location should work fine if you replace the stock waste gate actuator with a spring type.

Some of us, including myself have relocated the box to the battery location, mine is working great there.

I reused my battery tray, i just removed the bottom bracket from the top tray and bolted that to the fender hump. No hood clearence issues

Do you have a Chip in the truck? If not you will have the same issues that I ran into. I had to make a boost fouler to keep the ecm from defueling.

If you don't have a aftermarket ecm the truck will defuel and go into limp mode. To keep this from happening you have to fool the ecm. It is not hard to do but takes some time.

Jamin6.5, is it the boost fooler made with a "resistor" you mean.

With stock ECM and a bigger turbo you wont get enough fuel to get the best out of the turbo. A aftermarket ECM will deal with fuel, boost, shift pattern, correct the timing++
New ECM with a tune will make your truck come alive, and if you get one with switchable tunes you can have one economy tune for daily driving to the store, and one for towing, and one for "Fun", with max output. You can probably get more than 3 programs also.

I have only heard of Kojo and heath tunes what else is available for 98 6.5

The resistor is one way to do it but it does not work well. the best way is with at Potentiometer. They are $3 at radio shack. I have my HX40 set a about 18 and it works great. I am looking forward to having the money to get a new ecm but right now the truck drive fine. with the new ecm I am afraid that the trans will let go. But I will see when that time comes.

Where can I find plans for a boost fooler

Normally the trans will do fine, do you have the 4L80E trans ?.
If the tranny is working good now you can replace: A-B Soleniods, TC Solenoid an EPC Solenoid, the can cause bad shifting and pressure problems when they get worn.
I recently had shudder in OD with TC locked, i replaced front speed sensor and it was gone.
I have bought, and will change all solenoids soon, there are newer versions that are better than the stock ones.
And With a Tuned ECM your Tranny shift points, and pressure will be adjusted to perform well.

the boost fooler you can Make one or Kennedy sells them. I plan on doing a ecm upgrade in the future so I did not want to buy one from Kennedy. They are easy to make and will cost about 30-40 dollars. The site that I followed was http://idiventure.com/flashoffroad/Diesel/boost_fooler/boost_fooler.html. They show both ways to do them. The resistor does not work that well and I would do the Potentiometer. It has been working great on my truck for about 10,000 miles now.

And I have pictures on my profile of the HX40II install that I did. I also use the ecm to control the waste-gate like the stock system.
