HMMM.... That would be easier but isn't the CDR only "Open" when the turbo pulls air? That is why I say a hose with some sort of male to male barb in one end stuck in the grommet would be a better way to vent.
I am not really looking to argue about it or anything, I plan to use my CDR ran the way it was put by the factory with a provent added if blow by is THAT BAD.
Everyone has their own way of doing things and I support each way if that makes the user happy.
You're certainly right about everyone having their own way of doing things. I have heard from several that the CDR was designed to promote negative crankcase pressure. I do not understand how that is possible unless there is vacuum present at the turbo inlet. The only way vacuum would be present at the turbo inlet is if there was a restriction through the air cleaner (which for most of us would be a non-existing condition). I guess I am at a loss in terms of understanding the
benefits of having this little gold colored can handling my crankcase ventilation duties.
Looking at the way it is designed, it makes perfect sense as a way of containing/burning the crankcase vapors, and also makes sense as an emission control device.
However, I do not care one bit for the way the oil vapor skunks up the turbo inlet and manifold, -therefore mine is outta there.
I have no oil leaks as a result of removing mine, and I have a really clean intake and turbo to boot. I am going to add a barb and hose, -just to get it out of the engine compartment, -that certainly wouldn't be a bad idea. I am totally subscribed to the ProVent idea, -I think that would give the best of both worlds, -and help to keep the vapor-mess contained somewhat. I seem to recall several years ago now where either GMCTD or Quantum Mechanic fabbed up a veturi in an exhaust collector (with a hose going to the valve cover) to promote negative crankcase pressure, -I don't know if that worked or not, but the idea seems totally feasible.
Last but not least, as all of us 6-fivers know, LESS PARTS = LESS WEIGHT,...-and LESS WEIGHT = MORE SPEED :hihi:
