howdy fellows,

one 6.5er here is looking for a new engine. He is willing to upgrade to ATT + Bill tune, but thinks it is better first to install a fresh engine.

The one in the truck works fine, but it has more than 330 000 kilometers.

As he wants to keep his 6.5 for as long as possible .He was on the way to sell her, but after we discuss, he understand the 6.5 is not so bad, as long as you care it :agreed:

This might have been discussed several times I bet, but would you mind sharing with me your opinion about who is a trustable long block or short block seller?... I have seen some sellers on fleabay such as 6.5, natgolfpro, engine-parts

i also know Diesel depot and read a few about Ted Trucks Engines.

I will browse and search by myself of course, but if you know a good place.... ;)

Thanks all.

Ted's trucks engines are all military take out Optimizer 6.5's and they have 6.2's also. My Optimizer had next to 0 miles on it.. if it had any at all.

Nope.. You can take a look at my "starting my project" thread. They are not center mount turbo heads, they were N/A engines that were universal for use with or without side mount turbo.

I would recommend getting one from Ted's as well. Optimiser engine and in pretty much brand new condition, judging from the description and pics of members who have bought one.

In my opinion, that's the no-brainer way to go unless you repower with a surplus 6.2. For about $1,600, not including shipping, you will have a basically brand new 6.5 with the best/strongest block made to date. Rebuilding one will still cost quite a bit and it won't be as strong in the end as the navistar casting will be.

Hummer engines, that means they have heads for center mounting turbo, not side mounting, and so specific heads?

Not all Hummers are turbo...... However, the ones that are turbo use the center mount turbo much like a van does.

Like has been said already, Ted's engines are 6.5 NA models, so they have the "truck" heads on them and everything from your friends current 6.5 will bolt up without any issues. The only difference will be the size of the oil cooler fittings on the side of the block. The military / optimiser engine will have larger holes than the factory GM 6.5 had.

What the heck is shipping to your little island out there ?? That's gotta hurt no ?

I was thinking the same thing...... The shipping cost will probably be outrageous.

if you go over to the Place you can see a thread called the resurection I have pics of a teds motor, looks real good so far

NA engines should be fitted with larger turbo precups - less smoke and slightly better power.

I would recommend Boycee equipment out of Utah. They pull the 6.2 engines themselves, start them on a stand with coolant etc and guarantee them for 30+ days. They have less than 30K on them and you could eat out of the valve covers they are so clean inside. Not bad for $950 plus shipping. They will throw in alternators and 24v starters on request. http://www.boyceequipment.com/

A re-ring and light hone on the boars will make a like new engine. Gapless rings are a good idea for clean oil although expensive.

matuva this isn't going to be an option for you or your friend due to your location.....

But, for everyone in CONUS...... Take a look at govliquidation.com

They have engines up for auction all the time.... 90% of them start at $150 and never recieve any bids. A lot of them are "take-out" engines that include the metal shipping container. Stuff comes and goes on there constantly..... just gotta keep an eye peeled for what you are looking for.

The optimizers from Ted's already have the large "diamond" pre-cups they are 20.3:1, have forged rods, have a nodular crank, have beefier cast block and heads... and last but not least are Metric

Thanks for all inputs ;)

just to let you know, for shipping a crate engine to my location:

sea freight (2 months) : about $600.00

air freight (2-3 weeks) : $ 3 900.00

tax and duties : + 39% of item price + shipping....and don't forget the broker. :eek:10:

A french proverb says : "when you love, you don't count"

Let's say we're in love with our 6.5 :D

GREAT GOOGELY MOOGELY !!!!!

$3,900 bucks ?!?!? Does that include the cost of the engine??

:nono: air freight cost only...

Holy SCHHMMMOOKE....... That's beyond ridiculous.....

Well, I guess go with the sea freight option and try to keep her alive for another few months !!

This is why I can't afford doing things wrong. We're far from anything, and at these prices (even sea freight) any mistake will ruin my reputation...

It would ruin your bank account very quickly too....
