Can anyone tell me what the difference is with the z-71 shocks from just a standard model 1500? I went to buy 4 new shocks the other day, and i could not believe the price diference between the two. Standard 1500 trucks have about 5 different options from $17 to about $68, while the z-71 trucks show only one option for about $62? maybe it was more, i dont remember. This was from advanced by the way.

Now do i have to purchase shocks for the z-71 model, or can i use one of the other options? Id like something HD in the front due to the plow and the heavy ol' diesel. Any one have any suggestions or preference on a brand?

thanks,
nick

ADVANCE tends to be more money as they carry MONROE shocks. AUTOZONE carries GABRIEL which is a decent shock and they are about half the money. And a regular shock will fit fine onto a Z-71, done it before. You just won't have as stiff a valving in it.

I asked this question too early :D ......Just called NAPA and ordered what they call a "gas grande" shock for both the front and rear. Said to be a heavy duty model that will hold up to the weight of the plow and engine. Guess I shall find out. Just fyi, the front shocks were $45 a piece and the rears were $47. Reasonable i thought

The factory shocks on my 1998 1500 Z-71 were Bilsteins. That may be the highest price option that the Advance Auto computer showed.

In the beginning, Z-71 was an RPO code indicating the off-road package option on K1500 pickups.

Option included Bilstien gas shocks, a couple of skid plates and the stickers on the sides of the box.

GM sold a lot of those stickers.

I think the Z-71 option is available on a fairly large number of trucks, and other vehicles nowadays, Yukons, and pickups larger than 1500 series, though I don't know what all it includes anymore.

Gas shocks are more expensive.
