Wrist pin bushings

I was thinking of replacing the bushings on the small end of my rods during rebuild but my shop can only get ones they have to over bore for and it adds another $200 to the build.

Has any one found ones that just press in the stock hole?
 
I do not know the best practice of re-bushing a 6.2/6.5 rod, but it would seem to me boring the small end (the iron of the rod) larger and replacing it with bronze will most certainly cause problems. Weaker maybe?

I do know that rebushing the small end requires the actual bronze where the wrist pin touches needs some honing to fit just right. This usually leaves a crosshatch in the pin bore. (This is good)
 
this is better left to a engine rebuild shop, they have the proper tools for it.
best is to have the rods resized,if the wrist pin bushings are out of specs the machine shop will press new bushings in and hone to size.
 
most bushings are undersize so they can adjust the length of the rod as well as the size of the bushing hole.
 
Do it! The small end of the rod gets the worst wear in the engine. Small bearing, high speed and lots of stop and go loading that the big end is 10x bigger to handle. $200.00 is small in an engine rebuild... although it does add up.
 
Yeah, I'd have to agree with that one. Heck, that's probably why my '93 is clanking around. And thusly blown up.
 
I understand that the id of the bushing is small so the rod length can be adjusted but the shop says the rod it's self has to be bored for the bushing to be pressed in. Is this typical?
 
I will confirm this with my local machine shop ASAP. Boring the IRON from the small end of a con rod to fit BRONZE in just sounds wrong..., I guess.

Maybe your machine shop is trying to take the 'easy' way out?
