No, im not talking about your weber grilles, but our truck grilles.

For anyone who has one, care to share some photos? materials used and fastening meathods??

Im looking to make one for my 95 as well as my 96 which has the work truck grille.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

I too am looking for one to purchase or looking for the best way to make one for my K-5.

personally I would rather have an airfoil to divert more cold air into my grille, not prevent it from getting air.
Not a believer.

You are also blocking cooling to your transmission, power steering, and oil coolers...

High idle 1000rpm keeps her good, if not go 1300... if not there always 1750! Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!

I've heard bad things about winter covers.

all depends on temps I use one but only when it's below freezing haha

I use my Fisher 8' winter grill cover.....

haha..........yea i wouldnt bother using one with the plow.

Now for trucks that run hot normally, i wouldnt suggest one. But mine rarely even sees 200deg. Plus, some days, im making short trips back and forth to our farm and around town.

Im not looking to make one and run it all winter long. Just when temperatures and conditions are appropriate.

Oh BTW mine is plastic and snaps on over the grill with a cutout for the GMC emblem 3 pieces. If I get around to it I'll snap a pic when I install it.

i would only use a grill cover when the the truck is sitting overnight plugged in...BUT fwiw, you can probably run one all the time when its cold out because the oil coolers get airflow from the bumper holes.

I don't know about you 6.5 guys but alot of those (6.5 trucks) around me have inserts in their grille in the coldest part of the winter. I also know that if it's -10 or more on a DMax, if you don't have a cover you'll damn sure wish you did!:mad2:

Here's the cover I made for mine, ran it all winter in to the spring and the truck never got hot, it seemed to warm up a little faster in mornings, and held it's heat a little better too.

It was just a piece of laminated cardboard spray painted black, I left a little opening around the bowtie for some air, and I made little tabs that slide in next to the headlights and then zip-tied it around the hood latch. The only drawback to it was that when we got some sleet it was junk.:(

Here's a pic of my home made cover. In these Canadian temps it pretty much a mandatory item to have on any vehicle...especially a diesel.

Here's mine:

I can unzip the center & tuck the flaps in when it warms up.

This is the first truck I've had with a real cover. The material is like a thick, heavy-duty tarp, with snaps to attach it to the grill. This type is pretty common around here.
The PO had it made, so it came with the truck. I like it, but cardboard right on the radiator works just fine, and it's free. That's how I've always done it in the past.
Some kind of cover is an absolute necessity when the temps fall though -in any vehicle.

My experience with those covers is that they tend to shrink and then are hard to get back on. Maybe better materials now.
