Does anyone know a good "free" virus protection to download for win98 SE.......I just reinstalled my OS and everything is running nice and I'd like to keep it that way.

Thanks,
Louis

I will look to see if I have an old Norton CD... But you definitions might not work anymore....

Can I ask why you have Win 98?

The PC is pretty old and I was told that i didn't have enough memory or ram to install XP............So 98 it is. I have 500mhz pentium 3 w/ 128mb ram and 13.6 GB hard drive

Get AVG Free, Louis. It works fine with 98SE.

Jim, I was told that the AVG 8.5 is not compatible with win98......At the office I have the avg and it's great.

You know for sure it's OK?

Thanks Again,
Louis

oops. Never mind. I can't take the pebble from my own hand. :D

It's on the list, but it has a red X beside it. Hmmm...

What apps do you run with 98?

For fun (if it doesn't take 10 hours or so to download with your connection) try a liveCD from Ubuntu or some other linux distro.

The OS runs from your CD drive and you can use it to evaluate the program and see how well it runs on your hardware. It doesn't make any changes to your HD. If you do install it on your HD, performance will be better.

Some distros include openoffice, which has office applications equivalent to word, excel, etc... All for the cost of your time to download and install.

Hello Louis,

Spybot S&D (Search & Destroy) should work for you. Do not enable the TeaTimer feature, though.

Your Neighbor
