Blew a head gasket me thinks, lotsa air in the system:(,..i ain't to exited to dig into it.:nonod:
Turned just over 400 k last week, body is starting to rust out, hardly worth the hassle fixing it.

Need other truck, but they are as scarce as hens teeth around these parts.:agreed:

Wife was on her way home at midnight last night,.
she called me to say that it was snowing and blowing to beat hell and the engine was overheating and the heater started blowing cold air and she was afraid to blow the mill and get stuck along the highway
I went there with a can of coolant but found the recovery tank still full so i suspected maybe bad T-stat.
I fired it up and heard a couple loud cracks like a stuck inj but then it smoothed out and ran OK,coolant behaved ok so i said "drive it home" with me behind, snowing so hard at times one couldn't see the road,....and there were still some idiots passing us(one lane road)

This morning i put the coolant pressure tester on the recovery tank and pumped it up to 8 psi, the gauge held steady so i fired the mill up,soon after the pressure went up to 15 psi and rising and the coolant(still cold) rose all the way to the top of the rec tank. Then i opened the bleed screw on the T-stat housing and all i got was air, and then bubbles..

Looks to me blown head gasket.

That sucks.

Time to start a rebuild thread and use that special block in your sig.:agreed:

A head gasket job wouldn't be too bad, but then something else is likely to go.

Sadly, you have to factor in 'The cart before the Horse'

Craigslist time, find one that is 'PMD-dead' or something along those lines, and drag 'er home..

I see in your sig the different things you have, what are your planes for the part's you have coming from me ????? Special block maybe??

Chris

I knew the Wify's truck wasn't gonna last forever(the stupid thing couldn't wait till i was ready.).I got an other new block i was gonna put together to put in a truck i haven't found yet(replacement one for my Honey's old veh),i had all the components but the pistons,..till i seen your ad,..so now i got the pistons as well.Thanks.

The special block,...don't know what to do with it yet...I kinda lost interest in building a bottom for it.(to many other things to do).

Maybe put it up for sale?....

Well here's one that is probably as worn out as Wifey's.. :)

Edmonton Craigslist. http://edmonton.en.craigslist.ca/cto/2875908109.html
I seen that one,..there's a few on Kijiji as well, but not what i'm looking for.
I like to get a 98 or newer SLE shortbox 4x4 preferably 4 door, or a tahoe or yukon( wife don't want a suburban)with a blown or worn engine.Could be a long wait....
In the meantime i'll just fix the headgasket(i hope that is what it is,....will know later today) i pinpointed it to the driverside.
I have some trouble getting to the exh manifold bolts:cuss::incazzato:

Yeah shop is nice and cozy:agreed:,....bolts don't come out any easier though :nonod:.

But i got the head off,and as suspected.
No 7 blew the fire ring on the gasket.
Got some rust pitting in no 1 and 3 in the head :dunno:,..cracked between the valves in no 7 only.

Got it back together, cleaning the parts took just as long as taking it appart,..did i say i hate cleaning parts.
I was not to impressed with the Victor head gasket but it was all i could find on short notice.
I reused the TTY headbolts:D.
i also pop tested the injectors, found two pissers and changed nozzles on these, the rest were still perfect ,they been in there just short of 100 k.

Truck is good to go again, hopefull long enough to find an other one.:agreed:

total cost $51.
