Who currently has the best dual post batteries for these trucks?

I haven't had all that great of performance from Napa's top of the line dual posts. I bought new batteries for the 1998 Suburban in 2010, 84 month warranty and they appear to be bad again.

Charging and load testing again now.

3 years isn't so bad for battery life. At least from the heat here anyway.

Sears Platinum AGM made by Odyssey or Odyssey branded battery (AGM) with a runner with a runner up of Dekka that is rebranded at a few parts stores. Orileys Super Start Extreme is a Deka (agm) and what I am running in the 1993. Optima's made in Mexico I can't hardly keep under the hood anymore...

I have auto zone gold tops in my 95 and interstate in my 93. Auto zone actually has good battery warranty, bought them 3 yrs ago had a problem and they swapped them out for me, only problem is they stopped carrying dual post and I got the last 2 in Oklahoma lol

I last looked into this ~3 years ago when I needed a set of twin batteries for the other beast. Lots of re-branding in the lead-acid class with maybe 5 actual manufacturers. It basically came down to who offered the best warantee and I went with Costco; WalMart was runner-up. Never looked into AGM's as the price-benefit was simply not there for me.

And I just happened to get a set off the shelf from Costco last weekend for the Burb (due to necessity) that were only a month old; got charged a core fee as I did not bring in the old ones.

Presuming by 'dual post' the goal is to find ones with the side screw-in that GM uses *and* the top humps that everybody else uses, I did not notice any at Costco.

I've had good luck with Interstate. Where we live 5 years+ should be normal life. I don't know who else regularly has dual post.

While I agree the Mexico Optima is not as good as the originals... I am about to hit year 7 on my current yellow tops in a week.

They used to be the best. Then after Jonson Controls bought them out and went cheap in every way they started to short out taking alternators with them. Had one leak from the positive post at 7 years old and ate the battery pan and positive cable, but, it came from cooler Utah weather. Lately they have been cracking around the top posts and leaking. "Spill proof" doesn't mean "leak proof". I have one set left of Optima's and they have already been exchanged once for the leaking. They are making about 3 years here or less. Flooded batteries make about 2.

Granted the hot weather shortens the life of all batteries to the point here you simply replace batteries at 3 years if they didn't fail at 2 years because they will very soon. I will see if the other AGM's do better.

Actually they kind of are. If I had room I'd put in the same battery I have in the back hoe or the International

And they kind of aren't as you know Jeff.
In the future if someone is looking for info on batteries where the hell do you think he's gonna look?
This isn't a contest. ..it's a forum we try to keep organized...sheesh!

If I'm looking for a battery for a 6.5, I will look in the 6.5 section. Different vehicles have different battery requirements. most of the vehicles here are fairly similar, as are the batteries. In general if a company makes a good battery for the Jeep, they may not even make a dual post battery for my vehicles.

A battery is a battery is a battery. You have 2 major manufacturers who do over 80% of all the batteries out there regardless of what brand name is on them. Johnson controls probably does 65% of them if not more, followed by Penn who does about 20% of them. And what makes the 6.5 battery so unique? It's the same friggen battery that fits a DURAMAX up to early 07, it's the same battery that fits the gassers from the 6.5 era, and even many GM cars. So why is a group 78 battery unique to a 6.5 again? I don't normally blow up on here, but this is way out of line by ANY regards. It's a BATTERY, not an EGR valve or even a starter(I could see a starter being unique to the 6.5 even though it could also be considered electrical). We are simply trying to keep the forum less cluttered for the members here, and keep posts in dedicated sections for faster lookup when people have a problem. This is done to help you and other members find info and related topics FOR EACH AREA OF THE VEHICLE, not so it all goes in one box and you have to dig through 20 pages to find anything.
