I have been considering a muffler. 4" variety. I was wondering if anyone knows a good muffler to use on a 6.5 for rumble reduction, but retaining the straight-pipe whistle. If not, I'll be leaving it straight-piped 'cause I am a whistle junkie!

SS Diesel sells a "Quiet" straight thru muffler....

Anyone have personal experience with this one?

I have looked at some tractor/trailer ones but they are heavy... like 60#s I'm hoping someone can show me a design that they know has a good whistle and maybe I can copy with aluminum.

Also, I am just tossin' this out there... 'cause I know the GMXs just don't sing like others.

i got a dynomax bullet muffler. havent installed it yet but its a very high flowing design and only cuts out about 2-4 dba of sound from a strait pipe. so im betting it will have whistle

The SSD quiet muffler is not straight thru, its baffled. I have a car chemistry Equalizer muffler that I am going to install soon. Its a compact 4" straight thru, but chambered, which should cut resonance significantly. They also customize inlet/outlet size and location. Dont know if results will be good for turbo or not.

If you have a Cat, gutting it and putting straight pipe with holes punched in it through the Cat might do the trick.

Cool! I am eager to hear how it sounds.

Yeh... no kitty on my rig. If I fired a tennis ball down the stack, it wouldn't stop till it bounced off the turbo! Just lately, I have been feeling like it's a bit rude... I let off when I pass a busy bus stop.. hehe I'd just feel less guilty when I tramp it, if I had a bit of mufflerage. I had an idea for a custom monster glass pack.. But, I don't wanna waste my time building it, if it's gonna kill my whistle.

I have a 4040 and a 5050XL inline on mine, and it is still loud, although with both its alright. They are not cheap either. Ultimately probably not what youre looking for unless to add to what you have.

Hushpower is said to be very good in both muffling and flow, and is a baffled muffer. thats why I am willing to try the Equalizer from Car Chemistry.
