Which sealant do I use for the timing cover?

Do I use a gasket, or just sealant on the water pump?

The water pump I did last summer on my '99 I used both a gasket and the black Permatex.

Also need sealant for the coolant crossover to the heads.

I do have a tube of Permatex black that is still good.

I’ve always used permetex ‘right stuff’ and never had issues.
Only time to use a timing cover gasket is if you have gear drive instead of chain because spacing is crucial fo the dog bone shaft.

You always say Pentax ‘right stuff’, but I can never find it.

The intake manifold fought me going in. A wire and return line bracket got under the passenger side rear. It’s in now. All that’s left to do is the upper intake, fan shroud screws at the joining section, coolant, skid plate, alternator bracket bar. Also fuel tank skid and strap that my son left dropped.
