Hey I was just wondering, if you look at the pics of my 88 1 ton you will notice that the rear axle is actually not in the center of the wheel opening on the bed, even when it had its stock box it wasn't centered. The truck has had no damage to the rear of the truck and never been bent, was there just early c/k bodies that had the old wheel base on the new body maybe? There isn't that many c/k 1 ton dually's out there most of them stayed with the v/r body style until 89-90. ???????? I can't move the bed any closer to the cab due to the way the old frame twisted during heavy torque pulling or just in the feilds. It isn't that big of a deal but it has been bothering me for a few years now.

Definitly seems strange. I use to drive a fish hauling (tank in bed) 1 ton dually 4x4 of that era and didn't notice anything like that (I'm sure I would have noticed).

Frame from 87 to 88 is so different I don't think body parts would fit.

Any discrepencies in axle location I would think would show up somewhere in the drivetrain with something not being the right length or distance from some other part, which would have been a problem at the assembly plant....unless there's enough movement in the slip joints to compensate?

Maybe the cab is too far back?? Of course then the front tires should be off then :confused5:

You got me I thought it was just the factory bed being placed wrong or somethin but once I put the Bradford bed on it was the same. Being a 2 piece drive shaft the drivee line has plenty of play at both slip joints so you wouldn't really know there. I guess it is just a mystery that will never be solved. If the cab is in the wrong spot it should be foward more than anything else the last owner had a round bale in the bed and it decided to do some movein around when he wrecked it the bale came forward we had to fix and replace alot of cab components. Driverside striker and two cab corners so who knows.

did it actually have a dually pickup bed when new? because if it was a cab and chassis it could have a different cab to axle measurement.

rear leaf springs could be mounted backwards. i know on the older body style 73-87 the springs center pin is about 2" off center, could be the same thing on yours.
