My ABS (anti-lock) light came on the other day. I was hauling 1600 lbs of Sakrete loaded at the back of the bed (rear sagging) and braked hard. If unloaded it probably would have locked up for a second then antilocked jittered. I think this made the anti lock confussed. The light came shortly after.

I have read a few threads and pulled the connectors at the front wheel well frame and they look clean. Does the rear read off the speedo (speedo is working fine)?

I tried to read any codes with my ~ 8 yr old Actron CP9135 reader but its a budget model and just returns PASS NO Codes stored. What does it take to read any codes from the ABS light?

I am guessing this is not a sensor issue since it popped up just after a hard braking incident. I might try to read an AC signal with the front wheels rotating with my DMM how fast does the tire have to turn to generate an AC voltage? Can I just spin it by hand?

What all to you have to take off to change out a sensor besides the wheel? The wire looks to disappear behind the rotor's rock guard???

After a couple hours googling it appears its going to take something like Auto Enguinity with Enhanced pkg or GM Tech II level scanner to access ABS stuff. It doesn't appear any of the diyer level to moderate ~$250 level readers will do it.

My 65 dollar "car code" scanner has the ability to pull ABS codes. I've done so a couple times searching for a random ABS light. Mine turned out to be broken wires on teh front sensors where they bend at the steering knuckle.
