I put it on by hand mostly to their instructions and wipe with a microfiber towel until most of the residue is gone then hit it with Turtlewax ICE polish for the finishing touch and wipe again with another microfiber. Excellent results!

Thanks Mike, I see they have a Black Velvet to go over that? Be interesting to see how that works.

Jeff, all I can say is be real careful washing her. I have had really good results with the above product. You need to invest in lots of micro fiber products and a foam gun. I would suggest going to a two bucket wash system with grit guards. When washing the truck wash your vertical panels with an up and down motion and the horizontal panels side to side.

Any links Bill? Keep the advise coming, I've never owned a black vehicle.

Jeff, I use the place Mike listed above for the sealant and wax. I also buy my tire dressing and wheel cleaner from them. I used this place http://autogeek.net/ for all my micro fiber products and the other items I suggested above. Both sites have lots of information about detailing. I suggest reading them for the do's and dont's. The biggest thing I can suggest is a clean wash mitt and a light touch. Let the mitt float on the panels with no pressure. This is where the majority of scratches can come from.....

Good info Bill, I'm going to read up and order the Midnight Express and give it a try, I may of missed it, but, do you use the "Black Velvet" also?

What I do as far as washing is go through the superwash automatic bay first to get all the grit off BEFORE I go home and wash it by the 2 (or3) bucket method. I use zipwax wash with a fully wrung out hand towel and wipe each panel with a micro rather than rinsing. I do all of this in the shop.

I ordered the Midnight Express, and wax paste and a few diaper cloths. I should get a chance this weekend to wax it!

Where in the heck were you guys when I owned an Onyx Black 1999 Tahoe from 2001 - 2006? :D I did what I could, pre-washing with a pressure washer, hand washing with lots of water in big buckets, but it was my polish & wax that needed help.

Not to hijack this knowledge-filled thread, but is there anything similar for white vehicles?

Don't forget microfiber.
Wally world usually sells 5 packs pretty cheap. Pay attention to the wash instructions for them. Separate from anything else and dry alone without a dryer sheet. I have around 20 or so. Takes 2 for a wash and 3 or 4 for a wax.

You wash with the Microfiber cloths?

You apply the wax with a foam pad, and wipe clean with a diaper cloth correct?

No I wash with terry (either a mitt or hand towel) and dry with the micro. This could be replaced with the diaper followed with the micro.
Wax is with a fine sponge (wife got a bunch of free fine ones for taking makeup off - about 3 x 3 x 1/2) or terry applicator with sponge inside, then micro to wipe residue off. One does most followed with a claen one. Rotate in another clean one as you go along.

I use a microfiber wash mitt and dry with a microfiber drying sized towel...

I machine apply(DA) my waxes and wipe off with as many micro fiber detail towels as it takes...you can "tell" when they start to get clogged with the residue so flip it over and when that sides feels that way switch to another micro towel...

when finishing up with a final wax i will sometimes throw a micro towel under the buffing pad...makes it come out slick...something to do with the wax and the warming effect...

they make microfiber buffing bonnets, and I'll eventually get some...

What I use on my Bonneville (following advice from people who get paid to detail cars, and are very good at it): Wash: Meguiar's Gold Class with a clean sponge.
Clay Bar to remove all contaminants from the paint. Get the most bar you can get for your $$$, they all have the same kind of clay.
I use Meguiar's #21 synthetic wax on my car. It's a liquid, and I apply it with a clean microfiber and buff it off with another clean microfiber. Made my paint silky smooth, and for a light blue, gave it more depth. There are lots of opinions, but that's what works great for me. Use some wax on your wheels too, it will make any mud, brake dust, etc. come off wayyy easier in the future.

One thing that wasn't mentioned. Anybody that has a black truck (or car for that matter) knows that they are dust magnets. I use a California Duster frequently when the finish is clean but dusty... which is every day most times. Only use it when the finish is cool though or the wax in the duster smears on the paint.

Update:

Used the Midnight Express then went over with the Canauba Paste. The Midnight Express took a lot of swirls out that I had from the factory and did give it that deeper finishing, after going over it with the Paste the truck is smooth as glass.

Thanks for the suggestions guys.

And Mike, your right, this thing is dusty 1 hr after you wash it :(
