I have repaired some damage that I had to one of my dually fenders. I attempted to paint it with Dupli-Color Paint Shop with a miserable experience of orange peel. Evidently I had the spray pressure too high at about 30 psi. Never the less, after endless bantering back and forth with Dupli-Color, I have decided not to go the lacquer route.

At any rate, what would you guys recommend for an easy to use, in-expensive product to learn with. I am not looking for show quality, but I do want it to look half way decent. Currently, I am leaning towards Trinity 1945's Acrylic Enamel Paint Kit. This kit includes one gallon of Starfire acrylic enamel paint, one Pint of Premium quality Wet look hardener and one quart of compatible medium speed acrylic reducer. Mixing ratios on this kit is 8 parts paint, 2 parts reducer and 1 part hardener. It costs $68.00 plus $19.00 for shipping. Has anyone used this product before? Could someone recommend something better?

Any insight provided would be appreciated.

I would only recommend 2 brands and talk bad about one. Dupont is great and it is cheap sprays really good and even easy to mix. If you have some big money layin around I oainted my 88 big block in my avatar with Spies Heckner it is very expensive but is prolly the best paint out there. And completely avoid any PPG there clear is so runny that if you aren't a 60 year painting veteran you are gonna run it somethin feirce. The color in PPg doesn't seem as true either. This is assumeing you are going to go with a 2 stage paint.

Big Block, thanks for the advice. I was actually trying to stay with a single stage due to ease of use. I also thought that Dupont was one of the more expensive brands. Am I overlooking something?

Bought some Dupont Centari this afternoon. All told, it set me back about $76.00 for the color, hardener and reducer. The weather is pretty damp right now but once it dries out a little bit, I'll shoot it and hope for the best.

You will not be disapointed, single stage can look good but that orange peel you speek of will alway be there, more with thge single stage paints, but they can look good, And as I said it wasn't to wxpensive I see either, htere is expensive Dupont but you can select what grade you want.

Finally got it shot today....

...and the results speak for themselves. I do have some very minor orange peel, but nothing like before. A good buffing should take care of it in short order.
