the story is to long to repeat. posted it on diesel place last week, but did not get the results i need. hopefully i get the right diacnose here.

basicly this, 95 chevy 2500,6.5 F 5 sp strd ,see sig.First thing in the morning. glow, start [very quik], instant fireup on all 8. 1 sec later engine falls back to very low idle, starts bucking and smoking bad. And has NO pedal control left [dead] This goes on for 1 to 5 min depending on ambient temp. the colder the longer it takes.then engine comes suddenly back to life ,smooth running and pedal control is back. then truck starts and runs fine all day.

i bought this truck with above symptoms present.
new squirts,OPS,LP,FF,and thorough test of fuel system did not solve it.
IP is has only 15 k on it. all grounds and plugins have been checked and cleaned.i changed the pedal with a know good one, no diff.
idle fuel pressure is 3 psi steady with or without the symptom.
Before first startup fuel is present at the filter.

What is left, PMD,OS,FSD???????:wtf:

The fuel pedal it self is very common to go bad. Mine went bad in my truck. If you would let off the pedal at a red light and go to hit it when the light went green the "service throttle body soon" light would come on and the truck would idle but had no throttle response. Pull off to the side of the road shut it off and restarted it would run fine.

Dang it I had a extra fuel pedal but sold my truck and gave it to the guy incase it went bad :frown2:

If you have another 6.5 truck unplug the fuel pedal and take the 3 10MM bolts out and try it out.

OK well if it's your 95 it can have stored codes without SES light being on. Scan for them. Mine had a stored code one time and light wasn't on and it was causing problems with TCC and cruise. You can do it with paperclip.

I would look at your coolant temp sensor and see if the scan results are normal. A quick glow plug cycle like that will start the truck but cylinder temp drops off without glow cycles after, the truck then sees random missfire codes and may result in your dead pedal until a restart. I would have to see the code read out from your truck.

You probably have a history code for random missfire or a cylinder missfire code for multiple cylinders.

Try to get a code read out. I have a 95 5sp also. I did have a throttle pedal code and at times it will dead pedal but has always set a MIL (Malfunction Indicator light) code in history for throttle pedal.

The truck controls idle by shutting off or limiting fuel per cylinder to smooth the idle. If the PCM is not able to control the fuel or idle quality after start up it will set codes and will not in most instances set a code or the MIL (Malfunction Indicator light)

Thanks Slim, NOW we are getting somewhere.
CTS, had been disconnected to see if it had anything to do with it, No DIFF.
I can't remember if there where followup glows or not? I thought disconnect of CTS gives longest glow cycle? the initial glowcycle was normal, The start was quik, like 1/2 sec.

Mil was never on, and there where no codes set[ paperclip methode used] Mil light works when turning the key on. I also had it scanned at a local parts and repair shop. No DTC's found either.

Mind you the engine is removed from the truck ,to go live in my 98 [see sig ]. I wanted to find out what the cause could be of the dead pedal issue before bolting the mill into the other truck

After a few min things seems to heal itself , A restart right away before it had a chance to come onstream gave the same symptoms.

I am not sure if history codes will show on a paper clip code read. History codes can be important when doing diagnosis work on an intermittent or hard to find problem. Have you checked injection pump initial time, retarded time can also give you rough cold starts and if the random missfire codes set the fuel system may show a dead pedal. Disconnected CTS will give you the longest glow cycle and the most cycles after initial start up. The PCM thinks the temp is below zero, so longest initial glow and after start cycles until engine rpm stabilizes and the pcm takes over fuel control and timing.

I doubt the engine will exhibit the same symptoms without the same electrical system. If it does then it is related to the engine mechanically or the sensors on the motor. That narrows down the possible causes. Hope this helps, spent time in the steelership for to many years not to share some advice. Always good to get others opinions. :smash:

well i am gonna tear the thing apart ,change rings and bearings and a valve job ,new timing chain. it's got 254 k on it .doing that now will save having to pry it back out of the truck in the near future. perchance the damn thing will behave better in the other truck, if not i'll be back to pester you some more.:biggrin5:

thanks

ALWAYS glad to help, pester away :auto:

There is a new tread on it on page 6. [getting a Cold Case now] "hard start in cold weather 98-95 merge".

I am still puzzled as of now,but working on it
