What brand of car wash are you guys using? I am almost out of Turtle Wax Ice, and am open to trying other brands. What do you guys use?? 1 gallon jug preferred, if possible.

I use Mothers California Gold® Car Wash. As far as wax I use Hi-Temp's "Midnight Express". It is a wax/polymer designed for black paint.

Meguiar's Gold Class Wash and GC Wax. However, I use NXT 2.0 Sealant in the winter, as it lasts longer and protects better, since it is a synthetic sealant, not a wax. Wax in the summer, sealant in the winter.

I've used the regular Turtle Wax car wash before. I have a gallon jug of the WalMart brand of car wash (Super Tech) and I have to say, I have no problems with it. Washed the truck well and does the job I need it to do. I have a buddy that owns a shop and have him wax it a couple times a year as I get a great discount on the service.

for soap I use whatever is cheap. I use Meguiars on the truck for the time being until I get the time this summer to switch it over to zaino. I use zaino exclusively on the firebird.

Carwash: Blackfire conditioner shampoo.

Wax: Blackfire Wet Diamond. That stuff is absolutely the best wax I've ever used.

I usually buy this kit that comes with carwash, two clay bars, lubricant, sealer/cleaner, wax and detail spray.

The truck is due for a wax job, thanks for reminding me of that 5 hour ordeal.

Bill, is this something I should know about with my black truck and her black Tahoe? What's the advantage?

Mike, I like it because its a wax that also removes swirl marks that inevitable appear. It also seems to last. I do also like the product that Grady mentioned. No matter what you use or how you look at it black is a tough color. It's also quite nice when its clean. Here is a link to the product I mentioned.http://topoftheline.com/32ozmidswirr.html

we've had these talks on the car boards before and I've developed my own opinion towards peoples choice of wax and polish. My opinion is that it's not so much the brand you use as it is the amount of prep and work you put into the vehicle. You spend some quality time cleaning up the paint and using a decent quality wax or polish and you're most likely going to be happy with it. Everyone has their favorites. Mine is Zaino. I'll never forget sitting at a light in the firebird and looking over and some guy is checking out his vette's reflection in mine. I thought it was just a moment of irony. My car was 10 years old at the time. :D

Good story.:D

Aaron, please tell me you're kidding. And unless you wax every time you wash, your paint must be taking a beating, as dish soap chews through wax like it does the grease on your dishes. That's why they make car shampoo. Invest in a gallon of Meguiar's Gold Class next time you're at a parts store, and you'll notice a difference.

Not kidding.. Gets waxed twice a year, washed about once a month. Still beads up when it rains, so I know there's still wax there. I wash it off really quick.

I've tried Blue Corral and didn't like it.. maybe I'll give Meguiar's a shot

You'll get lost in that reflection! My wifes car is black.. can't stand waxing it.

Looks really nice.

I have been using Meguars NXT Next Gen 2 liquid wax... I'm happy with the results.

As for the utliity body, its gets the WD-40 WIDE SPRAY treatement!

Midnight Express

Kudos to Bill.
I did a Midnight Express job on my truck today. Done by hand with a small soft sponge, wiped most of it off with a micro and finished with Ice/micro. Excellent results! Best the truck has looked in years. Couldn't shoot a pic because of the shitty weather but hope to tomorrow AM. Hard work though but worth the result!

Mike, glad it worked well for you. I will give you a ton of credit for doing it by hand. These trucks have a lot of surface area.

Took some pics this AM. Gotta tell ya my old hands are a bit crampy today...):h
Not bad for 126k miles and 4 N. Illinois winters eh?
Wife liked the results so much she said she's REAL excited about when I do her black Tahoe...
