Mods if you could please leave this in the 6.5 section as we don't seem to get much love in the suspension section. Thanks

My torsion bars are turned up about 2" and I have 2" blocks in the rear. Do I order stock size shocks for the front, but would need longer/bigger ones for the rear? Or do I need longer/bigger ones for the front too?

Does anyone have part #'s for the the proper shocks for me?

Thanks

You will need longer ones too for the front, even though you won't have a lot of place left between lower arm and the rubber pad.
Cranking suspension bar will give you rough ride, and stock bumpers will be about fully extended.
I don't know for Bilstein. for Procomp, the ES9000 explorer has the 2" extra needed.
For the rear, with 2" blocks, stock shocks should do fine.

I've been turning the torsion bars down every chance I get as the tires wear, with only a little rubbing on hard steep fully cranked turns. They're not cranked as high as they can go, but still fit 285's.

Anyways the reason I asked here was because I've been told the oposite is true in terms of the rear shocks only needing a longer shock because of the block which extends them too much. Then the front ones can stay stock beause by cranking the torsion bars you are still within the designed range. But now I hear otherwise so I just want to make sure I don't ruin new shocks.

I think I might go with those ES9000 all around tho...I like the thought of being able to adjust my ride on the fly.

So yeah I just wanted to make sure I don't ruin a new shock.

I have my t-bars cranked up, I think about 1.5 total gain iirc. I just put stock size shocks on it last winter (front). Almost got Bilsteins but after much research I went with KYB Monomax because it sounded like they were designed for trucks with extra weight up front, ie diesel engine/snowplow. I got them from Summit for a pretty fair price. Need to do the rears still. Miht get a longer shock because with the truck empty and the airbags up it seems to lengthen the shocks a tad. Haven't measured them though, and haven't fully inflated the bags either.

Really in the front end even if you crank up the torsions you never in large the factory suspension span so you don't need a 2" true over shock. I would (with the OE in place) jack the truck up by the frame and let the front suspension drop out on one side. Look and see if the shock limits the down travel (this is how the HD 01-up's are) and if it doesn't then you just need a stock replacement. If it does then the best thing to do is un-bolt the lower shock bolt and let the suspension hang all the way and take a measurement to see from OE how much longer of a shock you need.

Sorry I have never played with the shock spec's on the older body 8Lugs.

Damnit, I thought I had my mind made up on Billstein HD's for Diesel/snowplow combo............

Ordering them tomorrow... Billstein or the Monomax's??!?!?!
