So $1300.00 later we get the truck back with new injectors and glow plugs.

Other than $140.00 for return lines and clamps the bill wasn't bad. :mad2:

Looking at the factory 9G's, one with 'rounded' threads I am glad I had someone else do it. Oddly they were still all good.

The miss I felt appears to be gone. The miss was shaking the entire truck... The engine runs way smoother. They also turned up the idle a bit to stop stalling.

This truck must have been worked really hard for the injectors to be this bad at 125K.

I guess "the bill wasn't bad" depends on how much money you have. ):h
I did my glows and injectors w/ new return lines and upper intake gasket - $500.00 in parts($400.00 for injectors and $100.00 for glows).

Vs. a newer engine with $250+ a pop injectors. Yes, labor was 50% of the bill...

Yeah, cheap parts is definitely one of the joys of owning a 6.5TD...

- a set of injectors can cost less than 1 Dmax injector.
- you can work on most everything yourself. Even when you opt to have someone else do the work, it's STILL cheaper than getting someone to work on a newer truck.

The last I checked a set of 6.5 injectors was almost $400 for AC DELCO's, and I paid $186 each for my LB7's exchanged from GM. $220-250 is an average cost for them though. 6.5 parts have been going way up in price lately I've noticed. Fuel filters used to be $8 for STANADYNE from AZ, now there $25. That was one of the reasons I swapped to a DMAX in my BURB was the way parts prices started skyrocketing locally for parts.

Yep, parts (period) are going up. The LB7 injectors can typically be had for under $300 up here. The newer ones are more expensive, I've heard. Perhaps they are starting to see an oversupply of LB7 injectors (given that they recalled and replaced so many of them, there wa a real market for 'em, there for a while)

I thought you swapped to LB7 just for more power and for the 'cool' factor... you certainly got both of those!

What injectors did you go with?

Local shop rebuilt. $55.00 each rebuilt and pop tested etc. They do not want to be pulling it back out for a bad one... So as they were tested after the build I am good with that.

Priced $70.00 each wholesale from GM last week.

ACDelco also goes by the name Delphi

Rebuilts are OK as long as you know where the nozzles come from and they are tested. (you can buy chinese nozzles, too)

Check with some of our vendors; in most cases, if they don't carry what you're looking for, they can get it for you.

It takes a little time to look through their webpages, but it's time well spent... they support us, we support them.

So says Jim. :D

I origanally pulled the 6.5 out and tore it down to see what it needed. Once I started pricing it all out I lost my mind and decided I might as well go with a real one off SUBURBAN. Since the 5.9L 12 valve has been done several times already, I was going to go with a P-pumped 24 valve and back it up with the new 68RFE. I went to wal-mart that night and heard a 12 valve in the parking lot and then a 24 valve right after that and that ended those ideas. I almost got an 03 5.9L CR engine, but then I heard one of them and a DMAX side by side. And the rest is history. I figured I might as well keep it in the family(even if it is an ISUZU design), and found an 01 donor truck.

LOL... I'm (personally) glad you went through all those transformations... that 'burb is sah-weet!

Nope. But he sells quality stuff, so it was worth mentioning. If you don't want the suggestion, just let it go by...

You can find GM wholesale parts at a number of places - but as I indicated, make sure what you get is really GM. Lots of people rebuild ACD or Bosch bodies with junk nozzles, and really, it's the nozzle part that counts.

gotta love those Chinese copies off ebay :D

Wow. I did all new Bosch injectors and ACD glows for under $300. Injectors was not a fun job by any means, but the money I saved in labor made it very worthwhile to me. For $1300 I'd expect a new engine.

new injectors & GPs today

Today I'm about to finish a project I started earlier this week: new injectors (NAPA Eichlin - Bosch 0 430 211 097, body stamped "India", old Bosch injectors were stamped "Germany"), ACDelco 60GS glowplugs. I was getting white smoke on startup, wasn't sure of the age of the injectors and wanted to prevent hotspots in the combustion chamber. The old glowplugs were 9Gs, didn't want to experience the swollen glowplug end.

I'm also replacing the exhaust with DiamondEye 4" w/ muffler and Warpspeed 2-1/2" crossover. I'm installing a Turbomaster wastegate controller and removing the vac pump.

While I'm working on the front of the vehicle, I'm going to replace the front calipers and hoses. They really get a workout towing.

I've had this Sub for two yrs, previous owner dropped in a Jasper engine about 90K ago. All this should make a difference in performance and engine longevity. 95% of the time this Sub is pulling one of my 4 trailers (two boats, two utility trailers).

I've lurked here and at the other place/page for quite a while researching all the options and typical problems. I'll have to say that the injector removal was easier than I anticipated, mostly because of the time I allocated to the job and also due to fact that I removed the turbo.

thx to all those who have posted about their projects:thumbsup:

Nice to have you chime in, Gulfsurfer... I'd like to invite you to take pictures of YOUR projects and help build our knowledge base for the next guys that come along!

Stop and chat a while; there are guys on this site that know pretty much all the 6.5 stuff you might need to talk about.
