Today, we change my power steering pump (putting back a new in bow Dorman chinese pulley was a PITA, we ended putting back the old one...), and the power steering unit + pitman.
The power unit was a used one which appeared to get a few water inside. We tried to flush it at the best, but sure a few water may remain.
After all job done, the first minutes of road test were fine. Then, I start hearing the pump whining a bit.
We stop, check level, all good. We continued road testing and a few minutes after, I feel the truck the same as if it was braking, from it's own.
I left off the pedal, and the truck slow down like if I was slightly actuating brakes, and when I turn the wheel, it brakes stronger, by itself
Checked everything, no leaks, good level, but the ATF was cloudy, a bit milky :mad2:
Water pollution I believe.
We let the truck sit on the side a few minutes, tried again, and all symptoms have dissapeared.
Back to the garage, I flushed the pump reservoir, add new ATF, and went for another test. Smooth steering, no wild brakings, the pump is still whining a bit, but time to time, not at all steering.
Any idea of what has happened ? I bet the water pollution is the culprit, but why does this cause "wild brakings" and whining pump ?
I will drive a bit and flush the reservoir each week for a while. Should it be enough to cure ?
