I noticed a coolant leak under my truck the other day and got to looking. Its coming from the back edge of the water pump. I have never really had issues with the truck getting too terribly hot but a slight upgrade may be in order. I have looked at Advance Auto and they have a GMB(130-1830p) HO pump for $90. Kennedy has a HO pump for $125 plus shipping. SSdiesel has a HO pump for $100 plus shipping. Any input on these choices of mine is apprieciated and so will other suggestions.

Not only that but Heath Diesel is now a forum vendor. He has done a lot to address the cooling system. Gassers had flow balance issues between the cylinder banks and diesel owners were late to this information - until Heath proved it. Article on Maxxtorque he wrote about it.

A high output water pump will do the job say off a 1998.

The best is the latest part number thread on water pump that will balance the flow between cylinder banks. Not a reman/rebuilt as these could be an older body that doesn't balance the flow.

A Duramax fan and new fan clutch are also recommended. Our body style is lacking radiator airflow so a better fan is needed. IMO if you push it hard those electric fans will let you down as the temp redline before things crack is 210! The red line on the gauge is for gas engines... (Electric flows 5500 CFM max free standing. A clutch fan that is smaller in pitch than ours flows 10,000 CFM installed behind radiators. The Dmax fan flows even more air.)

Get the latest new and improved "Balanced" screw on WP......only problem is that you need to get a new fan clutch and blade.

Considering how much the cooling system is a weak spot on these 6.5's, it might be worth the investment.
