I have a "normal" or "low output" water pump on my 94 suburban right now. I have a HO water pump sitting on a shelf waiting to get put on.

Question..... Will the new HO pump bolt up to the old water pump backing plate?

I seem to remember a Hummer at work with a "low output" water pump that had gone bad.... we got a HO pump for it, but some of the bolts wouldn't line up with the holes in the backing plate.....

Everything I read on here, or at least how I interpret it, says the HO pump is a direct replacement for the low output version.... with no mention of changing the backing plate. I just wanted to ask before I tear it apart and find out the hard way.

There is only 2 different backing plates. Surpentine drive and V-belt drive. The v-belt water pump is reversed because it runs the opposite direction.

X2 on above and done this HO upgrade 3 times...

+I had a 1982 V-belt changed to a 1998 dual alt, ho water pump, dual thermostat setup had to get a 1996 and up backing plate. It was cheap, had to changed the oil add tube I think is what u call it. Hope this helps.

Have an HO due 'on' soon too.

Yep the hummer is v-belt pump that rotates WITH the engine. Our snake belts run the WP/fan opposite engine rotation.

As a general rule, smooth pulleys run opposite, grooved runs 'with'...

FYI... some hummers have serp belt setups on them....

But, thinking back, the hummer I reffered to in my original post did have v-belts on it. I guess I wasn't thinking clearly that day.
