My truck has been having this issue for a couple weeks where it will hesitate under hard acceleration. On one other occasion last week, it was very cold in the am (15 F) I ran a glow plug cycle and turned the truck over and it started right up. It ran for about a minute and died and would not start back up. It warmed up in the afternoon and after excessive cranking it finally fired up. This happened again two days ago and has since to start. I cranked on it perodically for the last two days since it has warmed up outside. After periodic cranking for about an hour this morning it tried one time to start then wouldnt sputter again after about 20 minutes so I figured I would give it a break. I installed a new lift pump after the hesitating started so I dont think thats the culprit. I stuck some cable housing down the fuel filler to see if it was obstructed but doesnt seem to be. I tried priming the fuel filter as well with fresh fuel. I am at a loss here. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Crack open the water drain while cranking to see if fuel is coming. put the drain hose in a container.

It could also be air in the fuel line, get a clear 1/4" plastic hose and place it on the return of the IP, it is the hose on the front. Check if the clear hose has air in it or fuel. A small air bubble is normal.

If it's the one in the sig, it's a 97. If so the ops shouldn't be an issue.

So i cracked the t handle line in front of the motor. Is this the water drain? I cranked and nothing was coming out. Water or fuel. I will get some clear hose tomorrow and see if I can see air in the fuel

You have no fuel, either the lp is bad or there is no power to it, or the pickup is completely blocked. Which is unlikely

Or it could be you have a bad fuel line between the lift pump and fuel tank. Just went through this with my suburban, the truck would fire up for a few minutes then die. If you crack the bleeder screw on top of the fuel filter and air rushes out. I would be looking for a leak.

You have to open the t-valve WHILE the engine is running not before when engine is off.

If you open it before, of course it will not start, you have introduced air into the fuel system.
Now you have to bleed it first from the FF valve by jumping the LP.

Also, you can try starting while the LP is jumped (means you put 12V source to the LP).
To make sure LP is pumping.

Does the lift pump make a consistent "ticking" noise when it is working? I wondered what the sound was before but now it's not making any noise at all.

yes to both questions. New pumps have been known failures right out of the box, that's part of why only use AC Delco. Also keep in mind the clicking means it is getting power, but it can click and not be pumping fuel, the motor is cycling but fuel is bypassing.
