Hey guys, wasn't sure if I should put this here or in Exterior.

The driver's side mirror on my truck isn't defrosting. I drove around for 15-20 minutes the other day with both the front and rear defrost on, nothing. It is currently snowing like the dickens and I am not inclined to go look for fuses/relays while it fills the cab with snow. Anyone had this happen, know what to look for?

passenger side works for sure? I would have thought both mirrors are controlled by the same fuse/relay. Does the adjustments and turn signal in the mirror still work?

Sorry, no real help from me. We are suppose to be getting blizzard conditions tomorrow. Just stay home and don't use the truck :D :D

Yup, everything else works as it should. To be honest I'm not sure if the passenger side defrosts, the way I had my truck parked deterred the frost from forming on the passenger side.

How's everything in your neck of the woods? Everything stay put in that breeze last week? :D

Does the rear defrost work? I would check for blown fuses, but I think they're on the same circuit...

correct, mirror defrost works off the rear defrost button. Hell, there's no shortage of snow now, go throw some on the passenger mirror and back window, see if they work.

Work is ridiculously busy, I'm getting to really hate November. We lost a few shingles off the house was all. I am extremely surprised we didn't loose some branches off our maple trees out front. The wind woke me up about midnight that night and I thought for sure they were going to come crashing into the bedroom. The wind kept moving our chairs around on the porch. Almost didn't get our flag down in time. In-laws lost 16 trees on their place. Did you see the carnage near Viola? Every power pole on the main transmission line snapped through the whole valley bottom. They replaced them all with metal poles.

Ok, I will check the rear defrost, it will be 24 hrs though. I don't need to move my truck until then. Thank you guys for reminding me which circuit it was on. I really don't want to pull the doors apart and check connections when it is this cold, I hope I won't have to.

No, I didn't get to see anything in Viola. A good friend of mine is a graduate student in the Architecture program at WSU and they've had a project down in Colton with an old wooden grain silo. It hasn't had a roof in years so it was just a standing wooden cylinder...WAS, it blew up. There is no better way to describe it, it looks like a ribbon of wood now that is folded in half. I heard that one or two of the big steel towers with the big power lines above the river had blown down as well. M-P Airport recorded sustained ~50MPH winds with ~90MPH gusts that night. There is one tree down on the property where I live in town otherwise everything is where it should be. Two of my friends have damage to vehicles due to shingles getting blown off roofs.

I noticed the same thing with my 2006 the other day. I thought my side mirrors used to defrost quickly, but they don't seem to be working like they used to. My rear window defogger seems to be working correctly. I will look into this also.

UPDATE:

I observed that you can reach the contacts for the heating element with the glass tipped up all of the way. A test light was put to them and the mirror is definitely getting power, the element must be out...:mad2:

Anyone know if just the glass w/element is available?

I don't think so. I've never heard of one going bad, but nothing stopping it I guess. Spalding salvage or the pick n pull up in Spokane would probably be the cheapest place to go.

Yes they are replaceable.

I doubt you can buy them separate though. You'll have to find a busted mirror with good glass and swap it out.

run a search on google for that part # and then on ebay...I picked up a new (non oem)replacement heated turn signal glass for my wifes tahoe with the power folding mirrors for $45

or post up the part # and I'll see what I can come up with...

$20 cheaper @ GM parts direct...

but shipping($30) will probably be more than most places...

haven't found any on ebay or amazon...

partzone wont quote shipping until you enter your cc info, so thats a wildcard/chance you'd have to take...

GM Parts Direct is very well known for sticking it to you for shipping and handling. The last order I placed with Parts Zone Online was for two fuel filters and a fuel cap. The order was sent UPS and the freight charge was $10.00. Very reasonable IMO.
