I recently bought an old VaDOT GMC 1500 with a 6.5 140k for a steal and really very happy with it but need help with just the routine stuff with Diesels, never owned one before, that's why I'm here. I'm retired Navy and working for USPS as an electronic tech. got three kids, four German Shepherds that like to bite and one wife, one's enough.

Does anybody know where I can get an after market cruise control or some sort of throttle lock for it. I've been using a dog leash clipped to the throttle and tie off the other end to the shifter. It makes the Mrs very nervous

Welcome to the Truck Stop!

I would go yank the stuff you need off a truck at the wrecking yard.

What year is your truck?

1995, 6.5 naturly aspirated, 140k miles

Mine is a 93 and mechanically ran. 94 up is electronically ran. Just find a 94 up 6.5 truck and get all the cruise control components. I am not sure if the computer on these help with the cruise control or not. Somebody with a newer truck then mine will have to chime in.

I remember years back they had kits for regular passenger cars that you could install that were no very expensive, looked like crap but it worked ok.

My son and I did the wheels, bed liner and most of the black. we also put the brush guard and the extra lights on as well. I put new tires on and had the front end aligned. rides great. I was thinking about installing the factory turbocharger on it but the only thing I'd gain is acceleration at the sacrifice of mileage plus something else that would break.
