When I was transporting trailers and hauling hotshot freight I heard a big truck driver on a radio talk show say that he used walmart or other store brand vegetable cooking oil as an additive in his trucks for years. I think he said something like a quart of so per tank at each fill up. I decided to try it and my friend who drove a Dodge also decided to try it.

Both of us added about (accuracy is not important and the more the merrier) 8-16 oz per fillup to our fuel. I was amazed at the difference in how the truck ran after the first tank of fuel. He was also. The engine ran smoother and just ran better all around. I can't say it was much difference in mileage but it seem to be. Tad said he knew his mileage was better because occassionally he missed putting the vegetable cooking oil in the tank and he said his mileage was usually a little lower than with it.

I know that one thing it did was clean out the fuel system. Tad and I both changed fuel filters after about 3,000 miles and it was obvious that a cleaning had taken place because of the condition of the filters.

I got away from using the cooking oil since I stopped using so much fuel and in-frequent fill-ups.

Last week I decided I was going to save a few cents on fuel and use bio-diesel. I checked on prices around the DFW area and locations and found one that would save about $.08 a gal using B-20 and $.15 using B-100. I decided to go with the B-20 for now.

I had heard from several sources that the blend bio-diesel makes the engine perform better and gives better fuel economy. I can't say on the MPG yet but the performance is much better. My truck has 266K on was rattling and generally kindof noisy but that is to be expected with those kind of miles. With the B-20 engine noise level is down to an almost imperceptable noise level when idling and I can hear the drive thru voices again. I know it just generally runs better and performs better.

I will change the filters before I go to CO on July 4 and I expect to find them rather dirty.

I highly recommend at the very least buy the walmart vegetable cooking oil which is 1 1/2 qt bottles for less than $2.00 and use the whole bottle or at least 1/2 for a 34 gal tank and just see how it changes your trucks performance.

It is only cooking oil which is what bio-diesel is made from. Won't hurt the truck. It never hurt mine one bit.

I used to buy my Bio at the place on industrial in Downtwon Dallas. But they have since went out of biz. I am not sure what is going on with "Willie's Bio." Funding and or extremly high feedstock prices ???? Probabaly all the above.
Questions :Where do you get your Bio ?
I can add the whole 1 1/2 qt of walmart veggie oil right in my tank ? Also do you know if there is there a maximum amount ( of veggie oil ) I can add ? Ratio of veggie oil to Bio ?
Ratio of veggie oil to dino diesel ?

Yes, you can add the 1 1/2 qt of veggie oil or more if you like. You would have to get into adding several gallons before even getting close to too much.

Remember that B-20 biodiesel is 20% by volume bio products (soy oil, etc.) B-100 is pure bio products. The engine will run on B-100 without problems. Some tests show better performance on the blends of diesel and bio products vs the pure bio products.

I get mine at a DFW Biodiesel on Long Ave in Ft Worth. The link below lists the locations by state.
