i just found a set of heads off a 96 with 207kms on them. as i have 2 blown valves on one head wondering if anyone else on this site would say screw repairing my heads and just swapping them with these other used ones. they are priced at 150.00 each which seems like a steal compared to what i am goin to pay to get them repaired

the problem I have with buying used heads is how do you know they aren't cracked. by the time you got them home, checked for cracks, repaired if needed, installed new pre cups (because every used head I have looked at has had cracked pre cups) you would not be far off from a new set of heads from Clearwater Cylinder Head with new diamond pre-cups..... that way you could also ask for things like the bigger 6.2 valves in you 6.5 heads.....

Precups can have surface cracks, not a problem. And if you put larger valves in, you need to bore out the seat area, put new seats in and reduce space between the valves that cracks already.

New heads may actually be produced better.

ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh i held back and waiting til monday to find out prices on reman heads with warranty. i really wanna just go pick these other ones up but if they turn out to be shit then im back at square one again and thats not productive.

If you are buying used, You need to have a precession straight edge to test for warpage and magniflux to check for cracks. Most used heads are cracked. Junkyards are selling them for as cheap as $100 as listed on car-part.com. Most junkyards check before selling.

No matter what you do I'd bring them to an engine place and have them rebuild them and check em out.
