They any good? US Engine Production Inc. Aka 65engine.com

Looks like they are having a "One Time sale on Reman 6.5L Turbo Optimizers Long Block".

Cheap enough to bite if it is the Real McCoy.

My bad.
thedieselpageforums and The Place both have several posts about massive failures including getting the wrong oil pump in a squirter block trashing bearings, Chinese knock off blocks, used GM blocks with oversize pistons marketed as new, and zero warranty coverage.

I got enough problems with junk as it is without adding to it.

Maybe look into upgrading to a Duramax engine? More power, less problems and better running than the older engines.

No. Hell no.

I thought that the reputation had issues, but did not want to chime-in as I did not have any information directly in-hand to reference.

Looked into this one. Unless you can do the job yourself (unlike me as I do not have the tools, shop, or time), count on spending $25K - 35K for the engine (reman) and conversion; this does not include shipping the truck to somebody who does the conversion. I'd love to get a GMT800 K2500 and convert it, but that adds another $10K - 15K and puts the total price range well past one year's worth of mortgage payments.

Wow. That seems like a lot, yikes.

Buy a used/crashed truck for the Duramax. Reg cabs go cheap. Electronics vs. a mechanical DB2, well, the DB2 will win better reliability and cheaper parts with near the same MPG. The injector harness had issues on my 2005 - in fact the only real Duramax issues I had were electronic including the FPR valve.

Myself I love the predictable throttle on the DB2 without an EPA computer second guessing me about the throttle with the 1200 RPM letdown to idle, jerky throttle, etc. I'd rather drive my 1993 6.5 vs the 2005 LLY. I am not that sad to have seen the 2005 go away.

You can get a REAL GEP long block from Ted's. They are around $2900 plus $300-$400 shipping. They are tested and ready to run. They back up what they sell, if you happened to get one that has a problem they will fix it. Ive order 3 from them, the 3rd one had a scratched deck, they sent me a new one no charge.

You're in the minority. If you had issues with your 2005 LLY, they are rare. I, along with several other members have had great luck with our 05 and 06 Duramax's. I like the power, simplicity, fuel mileage, reliability and longevity of the Duramax engine for the opposite reasons that you mentioned. My 06 has been the best truck that I have ever owned.

:hijacked:... :eek:fftopic:... Rant over. :) Now back on topic.

A"GOOD" tune would have taken care of ALL of your issues. I did a BASIC emissions delete with a few other tweaks on one, and he said it was a completely different truck. Yes the 04-05 LLY had poor throttle mapping, but it isn't undriveable by any means. And I defy ANYBODY to show me a mechanically injected truck with better, smoother, or more predictable throttle control. There is a reason people with big HP CUMMINS almost refuse to drive one on the street if it is a P7100 pumped truck, the throttle control is NOT that great compared to an electronically controlled engine. And yes having somebody do a DURAMAX swap could EASILY top $20K on one of these older trucks if you had to pay somebody to do it. The labor to do it clean and right would eat you alive.
