I cant say thank you enough for everyone's help, like Ive been saying.. I am still in total shock!!! This site and the members who make it are truly one of a kind!

Drove about 30 miles today. truck is doing good other then a couple issues.
#1
I dont have overdrive now until the trans gets to about 100degrees. Its acting how my old 96 did in the winter.... fresh rebuild maybe 10-15k again. fresh filter 3k again. it isnt the linkage. any ideas?

#2 idle speed
now, no matter the trucks temp, my idle is around 1250. any ideas what that could be???

Tim, Jim, Nick, or any other mods move this to the 6.5 section or double this post. Just though everyone would like an update from me

1) Is it not shifting into overdrive or is it the TCC not locking-up? The TCC is not suppose to lock until the tranny warms up.

2) check your ECT sensor. Make sure the plug has not worked loose.

The ECT sensor/CTS on the thermostat housing could cause both issues I suppose, since that feeds the PCM and the sensor in the head feeds the gauge.

Over drive acts the same as drive. I can shift and feel the linkage move and the trans hesitate (for lack of a better word) for a split second but no change. however when in overdrive I dont have any engine braking on down grades..

It didnt get all the way plugged in, took it around the block and it runs good as new! THANK YOU FELLAS!

Wow, something easy is always nice.

As far as shorting the CTS out for diagnostics, I would stick with jumping it with a resistor, because shorted the PCM is going to think the engine is like 300 degrees.

A 300 ohm resistor should make the computer think it is 180 degrees all the time.

It is diagnostic use....no sense overthinking it....:rolleyes5:

A paperclip does just fine for a trip around the block....been there done that....many times....

had an old and new sensor go out. old one went out after coolant system upgrade, the new one was intermittent, sometimes od would work sometimes not. the big clue was watching the rpms at idle- normal 600 then jump to 850. Have read lots of posts with similiar issues, seems the ect switch is commonly overlooked.

absolutely nothing better than an easy fix after this weekend, eh?

I had nearly the same problem. My trans would shift eraticly back and forth from third and fourth and in park my idle would jump around from idle to 1000 i wiggled the temp sensor and it would idel smooth so i replaced the ECT to fix the idle and WOW.. the trans problem was also fixxed
