Hi All,

I want to wash underneath my hood. Mainly looking at my inner fenders, caked with salt, especially on the drivers side, and around the wiring harness conduit. I am planning on pre-spraying with Zep Orange citrus degrease, and then wash off with a water hose, (not high pressure). Will wipe off my engine cover, but what about the valve covers?? May try and hand wipe them too. 04 5.3L, so it has drive by wire

:)

Thanks in advance.

I always done the same thing on the wife's 5.3 Tahoe. Cold engine, Simple Green spraydown and cold hose rinse at house pressure. Then a good wipedown.

What about the valve covers?? Just wipe, and no spray??

Sent from my iPod Touch using Tapatalk, as if anybody actually gave a sh!t if it was a desktop, laptop, crackberry, I-phone or freakin' morse code or for that matter smoke signals... :)

Heck I spray them down too. Just not a steady hard stream. More of a mist to rinse the soap that soaked in for about 10 min.

Cool engine. Read a warm engine when cooling will pull water moisture into any cavities/connections.

Read on forums a leaf blower is good to blow off excess water. Or blot off any puddles. I like to do early enough in day for sun to evaporate water. I point my big shop fan at the engine bay and leave hood up for a good long air dry. Then a final drive up to normal temps and last hour of hood up to air cool if I have the time.

I like to start with NAPA citrius or premium cleaner rinse then second with simple green almost straight since its wet already and rinse.

All the connectors are sealed, just don't blast them directly with a ton of water. I also use simple green.

CD2 is a great way to make your engine bay shine like a mirror. It's in a spray can and you just cover everything, lol.
