Turn Indicator Light Problems

My left turn signal flashes rapidly (aka Hyper Blinking) on both the dash light and the front turn lights, while the right side flashes at a normal speed. This is a recent phenomena. Also, the left rear brake light and turn signal do not work. Bulb is not burned out. Wiring at the trailer plug also has rapid left turn indicator. Tried to trouble shoot the problem this evening but made no progress. The rear light problem appears to be no power through to the light socket.

Separately, right HID LO head light has trouble staying on all the time. It will suddenly shut off, but I can get it back on by turning the light switch off, then on again, or by turning on the HI beams. Thought it was a loose connection at the ballast, but that did not appear to be the case and that did not solve it.

Guess my truck is suffering from not enough attention.

Sounds like a grounding problem? Maybe try back probing the ground side to ground to see if it works then.

I'm a novice on testing the electrical. Have a multitester and a test light. How do I back probe the ground side?

Circuit board in tail light? Not seeing that. There's a plastic receiver for the 3 lights held in by two screws. The electrical harness plugs into that. I had that apart and was testing the socket. What is the top lamp for? Never saw that one go on, either side.

Im sorry, I forgot it was the PCB type taillight. Im sure you could still back probe the connector, but it will be harder to find witch one is the ground unless when you disconnect it, it becomes obvious? A shop manual would help.

I also have a set of the PCBs that I'd sell for $35 for the pair. Brand new.

Leroy, Colby has a tail light from the '95. I'll check tonight to see if that's the correct one. If not, then I'll take your pair of PCBs.

Any idea on the HID light problem? Is that a problem with the ballast, or is it a connection problem somewhere in the system?

Try swaping ballast and see if problem follows. If not and it still shuts off then its the bulb. If it does its the ballast.
Also the top bulb is not used, but can be made functional. I was going to build a kit for that a few years ago but never did.

Wife has been driving the Burb and now she reports that the fuel gauge is flipping all over the place. Wondering if this is also indicative of a short? If so, where do I start to look?

Inside the friggin tank! Maybe get Leroy's meterum rod? Guess what happened to my burb starting yesterday... Bad part is I put in a new AC Delco pump assy 18 months ago. No time to wrench for a month or two. :banghead:

If you run a test, do it at the connector by the tank, that will tell you if in tank or anywhere else. I have only found 2 anywhere else. Somewhere near 250 all bad sending units in the tank.

Now that I've driven the truck, the fuel gauge is behaving normal. Some movement from sloshing fuel in stop and go traffic, but nothing more than normal.

Wow, glad to hear that, fastest fix in the west! Another good thing to consider, if she noticed that, it means she is noticing the gauges. It took me the first 5 years of my marriage to get my wife to pay attention to them.

Now, since you don't have to repair yours, mine is messed up and I cant get to it for a while...

Yeah, I have my wife trained pretty well. Anything out of the norm, including sounds from the drive train, she reports to me. She noted the turn signal on hyper blink. I still prefer experiencing it myself before posting up an inquiry, because everyone explains symptoms differently. She e-mailed me while I was busy at work and I posted it up before leaving the office. I still have the tail light and hyper blink issue, but I'm busy finishing up shoe moldings at our 2nd home in Big bear Lake.

Leroy, we had issues with our PayPal linked account at Chase (long story) and had to close it. There's a new account for PayPal, but my wife did not bring that account # with her to Big Bear. I'll have to deal with that next week. BTW any reason why your Paypal invoice came in Asian characters? We're the Singapore girls that inspiring?

Wondering whether the hyper blink mode is an indicator that my rear brake and turn are out?

I think you said the bulb is good, but if its burnt out then it will cause the fast blink.

I have PCBs boxed & ready.

Singapore girls are awesome!

Well, in waning daylight with my poor up close vision I thought the bulb looked good. I even had my wife look at it under a light, because I don't trust my eyes.

I best try a bulb before I go and buy new boards. Thanks for confirming that hyper blink could be due t burned out bulb.

So the hyper blinking was simply a burned out bulb, so I won't need the circuit boards. What I do need is the inside black housing for the left side, as the top tab that clips onto the lens is broken, thus allowing all that dust to enter.

I know on mine if I let it sit for a few days below a half tank, the gauge would go nuts because the resistor for the sender would get oxodized over and make the gauge freak out. Drive it for a little while and it would smooth back out. I put in one of the metrum rods to fix it. As for the boards for the tail lights, they are all the same for trucks and BURBS for the GMT-400 body style. I put a set out of an 88 into a 98 before, and they worked fine. You can use black silicone to seal them back up. Do not use RTV as it hardens to much and you will break them if you ever need to get em back apart.
