So this is a work truck and doesn't whistle while it works. Since I pulled the plugged FFM last ditch screen out I have been hearing the turbo whistle on the 93, GM3. We also had a dust storm so a restricted air filter is possible.

I may stand corrected as 1993's GM3 turbo's have never whistled for me before.

:skep: New noises make me go hmmm and feel lighter from my wallet...

Me has a whistle. :) Exhaust mostly. At about 50-55 in OD lockup I can hear some from the intake too... a little. GM3

It'll whistle like a sumbitch when I go HX35W...

My GM-3 never wasn't whistling. From the intake. I also had an AFE Stage II. I could never not hear it lol

Well shucks Buddy n Handcannon n Leroy talked me thru the snorkle removal and intake muffler removal and I rigged a homemade air ram and my 6.2 N/A whistles from the intake and sorta growls louder and louder as I increase speed, she really sounds good above 40 mph and when I go past a warehouse or big building I get a definite whistle echo from the exhaust! Wonder if the people on their porches can hear it??? I like the way she talks to me!

R u askin me Woody? I have no idea mine is a non turbo but I read a article on another site that did research on it and he put a vacuum gauge on his 6.2 diesel with a homemade air ram and turned his IP up 1/8 or better n it ran good and the vacuum gauge on the air breather never registered any vacuum even after the filter was really dirty! Wish I knew more, I am a newbie and dont know if I am accomplishing anything or just making a good sounding truck! LOL

If you wanna hear it really talk to ye,go replace the exhaust turbo back with 3 1/2" straight pipe. Now take it past a warehouse or sound wall, stomp on it and tell me what you hear.:D

NA 6.5 straight piped without a turbo would be loud, but I bet it would sound good.

So I just delete my stock muffler, but there are two pipes come out the muffler??? Do I take the muffler off and put a straight pipe all the way back? What size pipe? Does it help horsepower or MPG? Can I get someone to turn my IP up a little?

The best whistle I've heard is on my buddies '03 F-350 dually 4x4 6.0 Power Stroke. 5" exhaust, gutted soot trap, Edge adjustable chip, Airaid intake and filter. You can hear it whistle at idle. While driving it sounds like a jet spooling up. This week his wife picked us up at the Boise airport and the whistle was the first thing we heard and that was from the other end of the terminal loop.

Despite all the bad rep for the 6.0, his has been 122K miles completely trouble free. He's got the 6 spd manual and the truck is simply a beast. While towing a light pontoon boat on a trailer at 75 mph and the Edge on setting # 4, it was getting 22 mpg on the truck's gauge. He'll be selling it soon and I'm definitely interested.

Starts at 6psi up to 14. I stop it at 14 with the TM.

WW, what does it idle at..? PSI... Zero?

My truck is a 3-3.5-4 straight deal and it really bellows at times :).. Soot too, if I want it. At idle you have to bend and ear, but around 1500 light load she really whistles. On shut down it you can hear the impeller spin down to a stop, WhIIRRRR..

0 PSI idle. And airflow alone with no throttle will hold 5 PSI on this choke small turbo...

You will really hear the whistle if you eliminate the air box. The AFE type with no enclosed box will really hear the turbo whistle. Any cone/cylinder filter will help it whistle a lot more.

Or you can buy one of those "contraptions" that attach to your tail pipe and the exhaust air flow will spin the "contraption" and "Wa-La".......Instant Turbo whistle!!:D:hihi:

This is about as close to right as it can be. I pulled the airbox to check the air filter. Due to the dust storms we have had.

Imagine my horror after the said dust storms when I find the lower part of the turbo elbow split and went in inside of the turbo inlet and not clamped on the outside. Good thing I did not put that many miles on after the dust storm. The split part was still attached and did not go through the turbo. (!)

So now I need to get a K47 as this airbox is not saveable.

Sounds like you got lucky with that one.

Mine has alittle whistle IIRC its a GM4 with homemade turbo master set at 12 PSI, 2.5" crossover, 3" downpipe, 3" to 4" increaser, 5' of straight 4" 90* turnout in front of the duals.

The most whistle Ive heard on a 'road' truck was my buddies 06 dodge with twin 6" miters thru the bed, IIRC he put on a Holset 35. He had stacked boxes to though, edge and bullydog, till he took the tip off an injector then he droped back to just one box.
