Had a friend weld a an bung onto the fuel pump blockoff plate. It it ok for there to be a "trap" in it? Not a very easy way to get this to work. I put a 60 something degree fitting off the end of it to connect to the soft line. My stupid phone wont let me upload the picture.

Here is the picture. I know the oil will flow good when warm even with the trap, but what about during the winter?

The more i think about it the more i want to return the 60 something degree fitting and get a 90. Would make less of a trap at the block side. Will have to do that tomorrow on break.

Either way the oil will get to where it needs to be. The drain has a little pressure from the turbo since it's pressurized going in.

What do you mean by a "trap"? A 90* will be more restrictive than a 60* fitting.

By trap i mean oil pooling up at the bottom before it can escape. Like a trap under your sink. I went and got the 90. The way i looked at it was the 60 came very close to the frame rail, plus it would need more oil sitting at the bottom to force it over the hill than the 90 will.

The fittings were too thick where they mounted to the turbo, so i had to grind it down a bit. Wrapped in heat wrap to make my dad feel better and i used pipe clamps, the stupid metal clips are a ripoff!

FWIW - I don't think wrapping the hose is necessary. I use the same hose for my oil cooler lines that run within a half inch of the driver side exhaust manifold and have had no issues with it. Been like that for somewhere near 12K miles.

The only concern I'd want to be sure of is that ID of the drain is same as drain of the turbo,

IIRC Paul, when Ted's engine was under Ian's control he undersized it or had too much of a bend in it, and it would not properly gravity drain and the turbo puked oil until we figured out what was going on, may not have been Ted's/your engine I'm recalling correctly, as I go thru the years the CRS syndrome becomes more apparent.

So far the smoke has cleared up, i am having a small leak due to using the gasket supplied with the kit that bolts right to the bottom of the turbo center section. Going to remove the gasket tomorrow and use some number 2. Otherwise truck has been running very well! Moved my mom with zero issues.

Use High temp silicone and let it set up overnight before you start it

I think that is where i made my mistake. I did use high temp silicone, but i only let it sit about 20 minutes max before starting. Hopefully this afternoon i can get it sorted out! I drove it for a few days like that and miss it already!
