Turbo ID?

How do you tell what kind of turbo you have. GM 4, GM 8. What identifies them. I know the one my truck is not the original.

There's a cast in pad with the id #s on it. It's on the intake side of the turbo.

if you get an A-team turbo, you'll get a Mitsu logo engraved---

another tip if your tag on the GM-x turbo has disappeared : the wastegate canister is mounted horizontal on GM-4 on former ones, vertical from GM-5 and up

Thanks Matuva! That's a super easy way to tell the difference. I like quick 'n easy visual clues. Kinda like the 4L60 having 16 pan bolts.

Thanks guys, I was just wondering if it was the stock turbo. My EGT's have not gone passed 950 even when towing a 10K fiver and no I am not complaing just wondering. Right now I am running both pre and post EGT gauges of the same make. In normal driving they read pretty much identical. When towing the pre- turbo gauge will show about 50 deg. higher with a max still under 1000.

Post a picture of your turbo on here, I am willing to bet over half the people on here could ID your turbo by a picture.
