Hey all,

I have a problem that just started on the way home today. I use my truck pulling a landscaping trailer and i was pulling it today. For some reason it started going real flat at about 23-2400 rpm. It takes fuel great to that point and was fine this morning. After 22300-2400 it gets very flat and doesnt want to take anymore fuel. I didn't notice any more smoke that normal (which is basically none at higher rpms). Also when pulling the one long steep grade on the way home it wasn't able to really keep up speed. Generally i can set the cruise around 55-60 and it will pull just fine. Today it wanted to lose a little speed. It had a new IP when I bought it last May and I put a new Lift Pump on the truck in June or July last year. It's not throwing any codes at all.

Any ideas? Thanks

Fuel filter?

Check that you are getting a good flow of fuel from the drain "T" while running. (essentially the water drain valve)

To me it sounds like a fuel delivery issue if everything else is running well.

Thanks, Ill check that tomorrow. I just found another problem....pretty decent oil leak from somewhere near the bottom of the engine. Went out to look at truck and found a good size oil spot under it. Looked below truck and found oil sprayed all over crossover pipe and dripping off the big bolt on the bottom of the piece that the oil filter screws into. However there is oil sprayed all the way over to the inside of the passenger side frame. It's not leaking while it's not running so i'll have to go crank it up sometime tomorrow and see if I can tell where it's leaking from.

Thanks all

Remove fuel cap, remove LP, blow back toward tank from LP inlet line.
Also remove hose at back of FFM and blow toward LP outlet line with a rubber hose over the hard line and directed into a clean bucket.
I've cloged both a line and a tank sock on two different trucks. If your tank sock is cloged it will most likely clog again. Blowing it clear is a temp fix.

Check the Oil pressure sensor/switch on the back of the block for an oil leak. Check fuel lines for kinks. 1 year on a lift pump is average life and I would be happy to see 1 year from one of the dammed things. The oil filter adapter needs an oring and copper gasket. See your dealer for the proper o ring or a vendor, above post, on here.

97 4x4 adapter only needs three orings. No copper crush washer needed on 97. Is your bell housing/tourqe converter cover installed? if not it will sling oil all over.

I agree

Sounds like fuel starvation as stated above, or a problem with the PMD or electronics that could cause a code. Does the SES light work? It should be on all the time when the key in on and the engine is off.

Have gander in here http://www.thetruckstop.us/forum/forumdisplay.php?218-6.2-and-6.5-Technical-Reference-Library specifically this post in the TRL http://www.thetruckstop.us/forum/sh...t-Pumps-amp-OPS-operation-and-troubleshooting covers how to trouble shoot fuel delivery.

As for lift pumps lasting only a year, I've found that with these older trucks with crud in tanks it is advisable to put in a 10 or 20 micron pre filter in front of the lift pump, so far I have 4 years on my OEM style lift pump (I keep my parallel Walbro lift on only when pulling large loads or testing latest program changes to my PCM)
