good afternoon scholars and gentlemen, got a '93 full 4- door. 6.5ltr turbo diesel one ton, i've got to assume it's got a 4L80E transmission. original motor and trans-388,000 mi. lately it seems that im losing my transmission; sometimes it won't change to overdrive and another time
(when it was very cool out) i couldn't get 1st without pulling shifter down all the way to 1st gear, then manually shifting to 2nd. other times it runs fine. i got to thinking about it, with my limited knowledge of tranmissions, and came up with maybe the pump is getting weak. does it make sense that pulling shifter down to 1st would divert more fluid to 1st and allow it to engage? thank you, in advance, for any help!

No, the 4L80E is a full electronic trans. Most likely you have a failing TPS or some other control issue. Then again with that many miles you may also be looking at a rebuild.
