A fellow lover of the 4L80E I see . . .

First: :welcome2:

For a sort-of tow-haul mode for the 4L80E, take a look at this: http://www.thetruckstop.us/forum/showthread.php?34326-Manual-Shift-Connection-Option-for-the-4L80E

Allison conversions are possible but IIRC they take a little more power out of the system than a 4L80E does; search and there are results out there.

While not part of the original question, am inferring that the goal is to get something of a tow-haul mode. With the 4L80E, it is possible to get better TCC control through reprogramming the ECM, but the limiting factor is that the ECM will force a TCC unlock when applying the brakes and there is no way to remove this in the programming (or so I am told by more than one programmer). In reading over the literature for the Supermatic-box, IIRC, it is possible to get it to keep the TCC locked when applying the brakes.

If you are keeping the 4L80E, look into whether you might want to update some of the hard parts to better handle deceleration with a TCC locked.

Why do you want an Allison?

As for push button, yep, look at some Class A motorhomes-that's the big one right? I've serviced them and they have push button operation, IE 2000+ models.

The push button shifting you are referring to is for the ALLISON 2000, 3000, and 4000 series. Since they have no parking pawl, they are completely electronically controlled and can be shifted via a push button console. They came out in 94 when ALLISON came out with the first world series transmission(not all WORLD series got them as some got a standard shift handle that was nothing more than a range sensor). Yes there are aftermarket controllers for the 4L80E that can utilize push button shifting, or you could use a jakes controller with a rotary knob for shifting. There are options out there, it is just wether you are willing to spend the money to do it. As for the ALLISON, you could use a 545 which is a simple swap as it is a hydraulically shifted trans, and yes the 1000 series will bolt right up and can be made to work. But why would you be willing to spend thousands of dollars to swap one in when the 4L80E can easily handle what a 6.5 can throw at it.
