My truck just started hunting in and out of OD(mostly out) and the TC lockup has been in and out as well. It ran perfectly up to that point. I put a scanner on it yesterday and all I get is a P0118 - Engine Coolant Temperature Circuit High Input. I'm going to be dropping the pan in the next couple of days to change fluid.(and prolly change a solenoid or two :rolleyes5:)
How come this doesn't set a code?
I'm leaving for Vegas with the truck this sat and need it fixed by then.
Any ideas??

From past experience that sensor will mess with OD, have another one you can try first?

That sounds like it. I've got the irregular idle upwards of 1000rpm too. Where is the ect whatchamathingy?

in the coolent crossover right by the T-stats

nice research Justin, Engine Coolant Temperature Switch-ECT. controls idle, OD, and torque converter lock-up. it is a thermoresister. sometimes sensor is bad, sometimes connecter is bad.

It wasn't disconnected, but gave it a wiggle and it fixed it right up. I'll check the connection later in the shop and maybe put some dielectric grease on it. Thanks for your help everyone.

dont put dielectric grease IN it, you can put it around the rubber gasket but dont get it on the pins.

Stop off at Radio shack and get a spray can of contact cleaner.

Oxidation will kill this stuff and drive one to drink.

Glad it was nothing serious.
