I am in need of a new torque wrench and am looking for opinions. I don't turn wrenches full time so it will not be used daily, I dont need the best but I don't want a POS either.

crapsman.

THey have the lifetime warrenty and the kids that work at sears are dumb so theyll accept any warrenty claim.

The Craftsman torque wrench will work just fine for waht you will need. I personally have a Snap-On3/8 drive and a pittsburg1/2 drive. been using the pittsburg for about six years now with no problems out of it. I don't have a use for one too often so it'll do just fine.

ya but the kid at the counter doesnt know they dont have a lifetime warrenty. :D

do you like the click type or the more old school type? i am looking into getting a more modern torque wrench as well

I was looking at these a couple of days ago.

They have the new digital ones out, wonder how long they will last...:noidea:

i'd say they'd last a long time as long as you take care of it. i looked at the digital ones when i got mine, just couldn't make myself pay that high price fo one.

Right now i just have two crapsman click ones in the toolbox, because they were a lot cheaper.

But Im in the market for a couple nice digital ones. My dad has two for the farm and they are REALLY nice.

I use snap-on 3/8, 1/2, and 1/4 drive all the time. Just remember to turn them back to zero after your done with them.

Crapman is right.
I have a crapsman and they wont replace it. Damn plastic lock ring is broke. I dont buy crapsman anymore. I am going to get a Proto this time. I borrow my dads snapon for the time being.
My father in law has both the click and digital crapsmans... complete junk! Funny thou, my brother in law bought a $20.00 torque wrench from Harbor Freight. We laughed at him for being so cheap, but my father in law calibrates equipment like torque wrenches. So he took it into work and tested the cheapy... and it was dead on. About 2 years later, after several uses of building engines and various tasks, he tested it again. Still dead on. We were all amazed. So much for brand names I guess. But I cant bring myself to buy a cheap one like that.

The 2 (3/8 & 1/2) Craftsman ones I have do a good job for me. I still have the old beam type in my toolbox but it's been a long time since I blew the dust off of it...

I am looking to get a digital torque wrench. My son the proffesional motorcycle mechanic has a Snap-On I think. I have 3 manuel click type Snap-On (that I didn't buy) but they don't go down low enough on the ft pounds.

Can anybody recommend a good one and or maybe have a hook up to get a good price on one?

I've got a 3/8 drive snap on that has a torque range of 5-75 ftlbs.
IIRC I paid somewhere around $2-300 for it. Its been a while and i can't remember that far back:doh:
