4200 miles and the cords are showing in the center of my rear tire. It's the factory Pirelli Diablo T. I'm probably going to look at one of the 3 compound tires since I do a lot of commuting.

I went out for a pretty long ride last night... over to the Skyway bridge through Tampa and back by way of I-75 from the Bradenton end. Stopped at the S. pier on the bridge just in time to catch the sunset. Noticed some strange whining noises as I got closer to home that disappeared in the turns. Dammit... if it's not 1 thing it's 6 others!:mad2:

Dang Grady.....It is a good thing you caught it when you did, When you replace the tires, stay away from Dunlop....Michelin would be the best higher milage tire but also the most expensive.....I am running Bridgestones on my SuperSport Tour and all i can get is about 8k miles out them

btw....you need to inspect the tires more often as this just didn't happen over night.

Ouch!

Pirelli Diablo Strada
Front: 166.95 + 80 mount/balance
Rear: 214.95 + 96 mount/balance

This is from the local HD dealer.

Try Avon tires. The Storm in sport touring are the best. They stick as well as a true sport tire, but have a little harder compound to handle touring bike, so the tires last much much longer. http://www.avon-tyres.co.uk/motorcycle/?page=tyres&method=showspecs&id=25

I've had these on my Triumph Daytona and now my Ducati 996. On my Triumph, the rear tire lasted 12000 miles and right now I'm at the 4k mark on my Ducati with no sign of it being replaced anytime soon.

I just had my Dyna wideglide in for some warranty work, and they refused to test ride it. They cried about my tires are bald. Big sissies! they wanted to sell me some tires for 450 bucks. Well the rear is wornout. My bike has 12000 mile, so I guess it's time.

I had avon super venom X tires on my Harley. Man those tires were great, stuck real good. Don't remember how much mileage I got out of the rear tire, but it wasn't a whole lot. I sold the bike with 10,000 miles on it. I think I probably had about 7000 miles on the rear tire, and it needed to be replaced when I sold it. Don't know about the fronts, as I didn't put the front on until a few hundred miles before I sold it.

Found a local shop that I bought some MX parts from waaaaaay back when that'll sell them installed for MSRP. $400 I can handle... $600 is a touch over the top.

Glad you found some. I was going to tell you I buy my tires online and have a friend mount them for me. It is alot cheaper than buying from the Harley dealer.

He's got the Pirelli Diablo Strada's in stock (sport-touring tire, not the same the eraser-soft Diablo T's it has on it now). He also carries Dunflops and a couple of Maxxis sport tires. Anything else he'd have to order. I'm probably going with the Stradas this time around.

Stradas:
$159 F, $209 R

Michelin Pilot Road:
$161 F, $215 R

Avon Storm St:
$139 F, $189 R

I have always replaced the Dunlops that come on Harleys with Metzler 880 Marathons, they do better in the curves, and in the rain, and last a little longer.

That said my new Screaming Eagle Road Glide has the new tri compound dunlops on it. So far I like the way they handle compaired to previous dunlops. They are very good in the corners and dry roads and do not track groves the way the other dunlops did. I have not had them in the rain yet.

Once I have them in the rain and see how long the first set last, I may actually get them again.

From now on when you get ready to do another smokey burnout, remember the bill on these tires.

Spirited acceleration, yes. Burnouts, no. No desire to destroy my stuff in the quest to look cool.

Commuting+sport tires= not the greatest tread life. I've put 4200 miles on it since late last Aug when I bought it new.

I've gotta say, these tires are much better than I expected. They turn in very nicely, and feel more stable even without being completely scuffed than the stock (supposedly sticky) tires did after they had some miles on them. The feeling is hard to describe, they don't have that on the cusp of losing traction feel like the stock tires did taking even mild corners at sane and normal speeds.
