i got pulled over again tonight for my tail lights not working that makes 6 times. Its sumthing in that stupid weather pack conection where the tail lights pluginto the wiring harness (where you put the trailer light plug in line) dose any one know where i can get a whole new harness from the front to the back or should i just buy new connetors and run new wire?

edit-sorry forgot there was an electrical section feel free to move

Do you have trailer wiring installed?[I've had the tee go bad] Have you cleaned the ground to the frame?[driver's side frame near bumper bracket] Checked weatherpac connecter for loose or bent pins/sockets? Taillight circuit boards sometimes fail also from corrosion. Rock auto sells most of the weatherpac connecters but th'er not cheap. A junkyard might be your best bet for a complete harness. The stealer probobly wants $300 or more for a harness, if they can get one. To remove the tailight harness compleatly you take the bulkhead connecter off the firewall and the taillight section will seperate from the rest of the connecter. The headlight switch is also suspect. I've had several fail[napa]

I would deffinetly check your T connector for the trailer plug. With mine, almost every pin was rotted off when I pulled it apart, they seem to trap moisture quite well.

When you lose lights, is it one side or both? The circut boards for the lights are also a constant headache.

Speaking of which, does anyone know where to buy a good aftermarket set?? or am I better off getting them from the dealer?? The aftermarket set I bought from LMC are no better than the old ones I took out.

I "lose" my taillights every winter from plowing snow! The salt eats through the weather pack connection so I just "bypass" the "tee" connector for my trailer lights and hard wire everything directly! I use di-electric grease on all connections then heat shrink wrap so seal out salt and moisture! Problem solved! Keith

Ones I've bought at Mr. tail light have been working well for me 3 years thus far on my 90 C1500 4.3L gasser, their replacement clear headlights are nice as well.

Salt on the roads and the sloppy spray will corode the hell out of the grounds and the connectors.

If need be cut the weather pack off and wire it directly. Use good crimp connectors and then paint them over with liquid electrical tape to seal out the crud

Replace the ground crimp connectors and be sure the ground point is clean and good.
Put some dielectric grease on it before tightening the bolt.

Do you have brake lights functioning? But no Rear (marker) lights?

IF so, just jump a workign lights power source and run a 2ndary line back there.... Just take time to do the above mentioned preventions or you'll be out fixing lights again (usually when its snowing and you're plowing).. Ask me how I know? The 8 lights I installed on EACH side of my body....

I found those blue plastic connectors that you squeeze the metal spicer down and it connects both wires, then clips over itself lasting a few winters already.

Great Idea with the liquid electrical tape....

well iv narrowded it down to a lose wire in the weather pack. tail lights go out turns still work break lights still work. iv been thinking about hard wiring them we built some fish tank trucks at work and the boss bought these junktion boxes i think im ganna try and find out where they got them they seemed to seal up really good and even had the ground in the box. only thing im worried about is that the wires are in poor shape so i may have to cut them back a ways and splice more wire onto them into the box

thanks for the help guys

If you decide to replace the harness, let me know. I have a RCLB that I will be parting out eventually, and the harness from firewall back is good. I don't have the harness that goes to the taillights though.
