I just had new General Grabber 265/75/16 AT2 e (load range) tires put on my 95 sub. The drive home was alot different than the drive there with my old Michelins. I checked the tire pressure and they were at 40 lbs all 4. Way too low for an 80 lb max tire I would think?

What pressure would you all think is right for these tires. I drive mostly unloaded 70% highway 30% dirt roads.

Thanks for any replys gus

My 95 door sticker says 50 front and 80 rear. There is a optional unloaded sticker for ride comfort that lowers the pressure I'll look at again to remember. I run 50 all the way around unloaded.

Make sure you got LT tires all the way around as accidental substitutions to passenger tires have happened to me.

I run 40 front and 35 rear on my truck not towing.

I used the challk line across the tread section and aired them down until the tread patch wore evenly, after a week I did it again and aired them down a bit more. I was runnign way over inflated for my truck unloaded.

I run 55 in the front and 50 in the rear for comfort, and air them up to 60 in the front and 55 in the rear for trips when I'm trying to get better milage. When towing I air the rears up to about 65. If I run any less than 53 in the front it gets a squishy feeling to the ride and handling that is not pleasant.

That is the best awnser, even the same mfr of tire with a different tire design will run different. If you do 2 tests,1 empty and 1 loaded heavy that will tell you where to run for best tire life and performance.

I pumped them up to 55 all the way around and it made a huge difference in handling. Before as fermanator described it was squishy and kind floated around. Now I will experiment with the pressure.

How does the chaulk line on tire work?

Thanks again

Draw a heavy line of chalk (or paint) across the treadfrom side to side. Drive. Examine the line, it should wear off evenly. If it wears in the middle, over inflated. If it wears of the outside but leaves the middle, underinflated. Adjust air pressure and do it again as needed. Easy pezy.

You should find with any truck different pressure front and rear btw.

I have measured with a tread depth gauge at various placed on each tire, logging results and comparing apples & apples. Time consuming and a pain in the eyes. BUT
Since tires are the 2nd biggest investment over the life of the average vehicle (fuel 1st), I always like wear to be even. I have had to do it over with each new set of tires, and have had pretty good results. Experience has also taught me to have the alignment checked periodically since our frames and some components are just fancy sheet metal and able to bend.

I WISH someone had suggested this to me a few decades ago. Thanx, as I'm ordering a set of Mickey Thompson Baja STZ 265/75-16, from WallyWorld.
They're celebrating their 50th anniversary so there's a $50 rebate online.
Best tire for the price that work for what I want.
I'll be doing the chalk or paint line testing on these.
I'll do it in 3 places on each tire to freak out the spectators...

Looks like I will be trying 55 in the fronts for the side to side squishy feeling. I thought it was the highway tread tracking the grooves.

Well I did the inflation test with some off white spray paint. It seemed to wear off evenly front and back at 55 lbs. That seems strange to me with so much more weight up front. So did I just get extremly lucky or maybe I drove to far? I drove maybe 4 miles. Thanks gus
