As some may know i have had a problem with a coolant that the dealer claimed was a loose hose clamp :icon_bs:. Its been using coolant but not as much as before so maybe the clamp was part of the problem but 4 days ago i seemed to have an exhaust tick up front. With the plowing i do and getting it buried in snow i figured i bent the exhaust and possibly cracked the pipe at the manifold. So since the new service advisor and i have been bumping heads i decided to take the truck to a buddies garage to diagnose the problem myself before taking it to the dealer. I found the coolant leaking from the right rear head and the gasket itself is blowing by while running. I called the dealership i used to work at and spoke with a friend about working on it and i am having another friend tow it there in the morning. Hopefully they wont have it long as now i will be out of a plow/sander. I will be insisting on a 4X4 with at least a hitch so i can still work. I wish i had the coin to buy another truck now :mad2:.

The dealer contacted me today. They are replacing both heads, the steering box due to leak "which i didnt notice until i put it in the air which previous dealer never said a word", and the left inner tie rod with wheel alignment. It sure is good to have friends at the dealer, from here on i will be driving the extra 10 miles for the service and repairs. The only reason why i didnt buy the truck at the dealer i used to work at was due to the lazy salesman, i will be damned if i have to go in and ask a salesman about purchasing a truck. But from here on they get my service. The service advisor i am dealing with used to be my service advisor when i worked there and she has been great through this.

What was wrong with the heads? Jeesh though, they coulda just put in a whole new engine.

The tech and i had talked about the possible damage from driving it with it leaking. I am sure the head got grooved from the leak and he stated that if it was that bad then he was going to push for both heads. We both agreed that the engine would be better off with 2 new heads than one new and one used. Now if i just had the money for studs :rolleyes5:.
I have been eye balling another 06 LBZ RCLB with a plow as a back up vehicle. When i showed it to the wife i thought she turned into the Devil, man was she fuming!!! She now knows i need a back up vehicle with a plow that i can tow with but she feels i should wait until spring and buy a beater. But IMO another D-max would be the way to go, this one already has a plow and all i would have to do is buy another controller for the sander. Then it wouldnt matter which vehicle is in the shop, i can still tow any of my trailers, plow and sand my driveways with a good reliable truck. Have to wait and see i guess.

25K? What is the cost of a plow setup?
I need to get them to list my truck. Before I decided to build my tranny I went look at trading it in. I took a 2K hit just for the tranny needing work and was offered 16K. My truck is a 06 CC with 57K miles. They darn near can not give the diesels away around here. I just saw an advertisement for a new CC SB 4WD DMAX for 27,999 at a dealer. 19K will get you a used, low mileage, fully loaded loaded, CC.

I offered them $19k and we settled on $19,900. I already have the ECSB and i have been wanting a regular cab, this is the only one around with a blade already mounted. The blade is tired and will need replacing down the road but for now it is a good back up.

No news on my truck yet. My wife and i decided to get the other 06 D-Max as a back up vehicle. I brought it home last night and everything seems well with it. The headlight covers and bug sheild have to go. I am undecided on the side steps, this truck seems to sit taller than mine. I will have to see how bad they hit when plowing. The plow is whipped but will work for the rest of this year and i can put the Minute Mount-2 off the other truck on this one. I talked to a small dealer about 50 miles from here that i have started doing business with and he will let me know when he gets another Fisher 8' straight blade or a V-blade in and i will trade the tired Minute Mount-1 in on one of those.

What happened? Win the lottery?

Nope :smile5: , i went over my expenses to see where i could pull money from. I over pay on all my credit cards as to keep them paid quicker if not paid off and i way over pay on my home equity loan so pulling a little from each of those lets me swing the other $400 a month. It may not be the best move to make but i know i can make the payments. My payments vary from $4k-$10k a month so $400 isnt going to hurt that bad. I plan on writing this truck off through the business too, the other truck i just write off the milage since i use it for personal use. I told the wife that once the wood boiler is hooked we will have basically free heat so whatever $$$ that went for heat can be put towards the new/used truck payment also. If i pick up another new house to wire then i can pay it off this year and not worry about it  . But now i have a back up vehicle that has the same capabilities that the other does and we have a spare vehicle if my wifes van breaks down.

Well, it was 1 month and three days but i drove it home from the dealer this evening. Apparently GM has the head gaskets on some national back order, the dealer wasnt going to have the gaskets until mid April so the tech convinced the service advisor and GMPP into installing aftermarket head gaskets. The truck runs great and has its power back . Now i have to make an appointment to have the other LBZ diagnosed for the same problem as it too leaks coolant from the same area. They wont be getting that truck until all the parts are on the shelf at the dealer .

What? Both leak? Thats ridiculous...

Your telling me. The techs at the dealer thought it was from the tuner which i run only on the tow tune now and has for the last 20-25k miles. But, the other truck i have now only had 34k on it when i picked it up and i am almost certain it did not have a tuner on it either so i am more inclined to think GM has a problem with the head gaskets on the LBZ's. Both trucks had coolant leaks from the right rear head right at the corner. I dont know, have to wait and see how many others have problems out there. Maybe it has something to do with working the trucks every day with towing, plowing, and hauling the heavy ass sander?

Maybe its an 06 thing...Like, the early LBZ's that came out had some bugs. No problems on mine...Knock on wood and I'm at 38k.

Nick, i suspect you are correct. The truck i just got back has a build date of Oct 2005, i purchased it in Dec 2005. The other truck has been wrecked and the drivers door info sticker is missing. I will have the parts dept at the dealer run the Vin# for the build date but like you say it too is probably an early model.

Yours is still cherry, I've got 62K on my 07 and still no problems...yet...
